Main duties of the job

We are looking for a Salaried GP to cover maternity leave beginning October/November 2023, working 4-5 sessions a week, to assist us in providing a full range of medical services to our patients.

About us

Links Medical Practice is a two-site GMS practice with three GP Partners, providing high quality primary healthcare to a mixed urban population of 5900 patients in Dudley, West Midlands. We were judged 'Good' by CQC in June 2019, with 'Outstanding' in Well Led. We have excellent performance against local and national requirements.

Links Medical Practice is a training practice and there will be opportunity to be involved in supervision and teaching of Foundation doctors and/or Registrars. This is a part-time post (4-5 sessions) on a fixed-term 12 month contract to cover maternity leave, starting October / November 2023.

Informal visits are welcomed and can be arranged via our Practice Manager, Gemma Massey.

JOB TITLE: Salaried GP

HOURS: 4-5 sessions

RESPONSIBLE TO: GP Partners/ Practice Manager

SALARY: £10,000 - £11,500 / session, depending on experience

JOB PURPOSE:

This post requires the holder to have an excellent understanding of and identification with the ethos of the Practice and to demonstrate this in their professional behaviour and their dealings with the public. The post holder is directly responsible to the Practice Manager for all organisational and administrative issues and the Partners for all clinical issues.

The post-holder will provide general medical services, managing a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities

Provide a full range of medical services as defined in the core GMS contract and additional enhanced services where appropriate

In accordance with the Practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make themselves available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone and online consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion

To record clear and contemporaneous computer based consultation notes to agreed standards using EMIS web

Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation

Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems

Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness

In consultation with patients and in line with current Practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health

Providing counselling and health education

Referring to other care providers as appropriate

Collecting data for audit purposes

Compiling and issuing EPS2 acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible)

Prescribing in accordance with Dudley Formulary whenever this is clinically appropriate

Understanding the skills of, and appropriately supervising, GP registrars, foundation doctors, Physician Associates, nurses, pharmacists, HCAs and other AHPs, recognising the limits of their confidence and competence.

In general the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

Other Responsibilities within the Organisation

Awareness of and compliance with all relevant Practice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety

A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice

Contributing to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation

Contributing to the development of computer-based patient records

Contributing to the coding of patient data

Attending training and events organised by the Practice or other agencies, where appropriate.

Using personal security systems within the workplace according to Practice guidelines

Awareness of national standards of infection control and cleanliness and regulatory / contractual / professional requirements, and good practice guidelines

Correct and safe use of the specimens process including collection, labelling, handling, use of correct and clean containers, storage and transport arrangements

Correct personal use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Awareness of and adherence to the relevant infection control procedures in both routine and extraordinary circumstances (e.g. pandemic or individual infectious circumstances)

Hand hygiene standards

Prompt response to incidents of accidental exposure

Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills

Maintenance of own clean working environment

Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy, clean and sterile, and safe way, free from hazards. Initiation of remedial / corrective action where needed or escalation to responsible management
