Job summary

We're looking for a permanent Medical Receptionist

Based in Edgbaston, we care for patients who live in the area as well as those attending Birmingham University.

The successful applicant will be a confident, patient focused individual with excellent communication skills. Candidates should demonstrate strengths in the following areas:

Strong customer service and respectful of confidentiality

Attention to detail

Ability to multi task

Flexibility

Computer literacy and keyboard skills

The successful candidate will be expected to follow process, procedure and, able to work on their own initiative with the ability to multitask and prioritise workload. The applicant must be punctual, reliable and be able to enjoy working as part of a team.

We are a friendly, highly motivated and well organised practice. We work well as a team caring for 19,000 patients and are reactive to their needs. We are innovative in the use of IT, and we use System1, and are at the forefront of online patient access.

The working hours would be agreed at interview, although we would ask that the candidate was flexible over the 5 days a week when the surgery is open 0700-19:30. We would also ask that the candidate was prepared to cover other members of the team for holidays and sickness.

Main duties of the job

As a Receptionist you will receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the most appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way. We therefore need someone with excellent interpersonal skills, keyboard and IT skills, who preferably has an understanding of medical terminology. Previous experience as a Medical Receptionist is preferred, although full training will be provided.

An understanding of the importance of confidentiality in the workplace and an ability to follow data protection policies and guidelines is essential.
