Job summary

We are looking for a Salaried GP who will provide high-quality clinical care to a diverse patient population, including consultations, diagnoses, and management of acute and chronic conditions.

Youll work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, effective, and person-centred care. The role also involves contributing to practice development, supporting continuity of care, and helping to improve the health and wellbeing of the local community.

Main duties of the job

As a Salaried GP, you will provide excellent care to patients of all ages, managing both routine and urgent health needs. You will work closely with a supportive team to ensure patients receive safe, compassionate, and personalised care. This role offers the chance to make a real difference in the local community while contributing to the ongoing development and smooth running of the practice.

James Alexander Family Practice is a large Primary Care Organisation, delivering General Practice services across two sites; with practices at Bransholme Health Centre and Princes Medical Centre.

Patient-centred care is at the heart of our organisation, with one of our key objectives being to provide a high-quality service to our patients.

Our total list size is over 21,500 patients.

We have a wide and diverse clinical team of both medical and non-medical staff with a range of staff including Clinical Practitioners, First Contact Physiotherapists, GP Assistants, Practice Nurses, Health Care Assistants and a Mental Health Practitioner. We also have a dedicated in-house Pharmacy Team.

We work closely with the Primary Care Network; Marmot PCN and both get support from and support the PCN.

Regular staff activities are arranged outside of work to support and maintain staff emotional wellbeing, recent events have included walking with alpacas and wine tasting.

Role summary:

The post-holder will provide general medical servicesand deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.

Main purpose of the role:

The appointee will have the opportunity to take part in leading on key disease areas (monitoring trends in the Quality and Outcomes Framework, treatment, staff training and prescribing) and assist in developing appropriate healthcare services for a diverse, patient list (encouraging patient participation and health promotion).

Clinical responsibilities:

In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/herself available to undertake clinical sessions at either of our two sites (Bransholme Health Centre or Princes Medical Centre), depending on the needs of the practice.

A clinical session is normally composed of face to face appointments, although telephone appointments may be required on occasion. You will have protected time to allow appropriate time for a variety of duties including actioning test results and patient tasks.

When on call the post holder may be required to visit patients at home.

Appointments will be 15 minutes duration as standard.

A student or learner may on occasion be attached to you for a session.

You will be required to:

Act upon most alerts (e.g. QOF) and reminders during a routine consultation.

Provide all GP services required as part of the GMS contract held between James Alexander Family Practice and NHS England, including all core services such as Child Health Surveillance.

Respond to medical problems presented by patients, including history taking,examination, investigation, diagnosis, treatment and referral where appropriate.

Provide appropriate preventative health care and advice.

Provide medical support as required to patients referred by other members of our multi-disciplinary team.

Adhere to the practice prescribing formulary, local and national guidelines.

Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems,whether self-referred or referred from other health care members of the organisation.

Record clear and contemporaneous IT based consultation notes to agreed standards.

Collect data for audit purposes.

Compile and issue computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible).

In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

Other responsibilities with the Practice:

Engaging in appropriate lifelong educational and audit activity to maintain clinical competence and performance, including the completion of objectives agreed by you and the practice, in an annual Personal Development Plan. Your Personal Development Plan must be in line with the Practice Development Plan.

Supporting the practice staff and responding to requests for advice and assistance from the practice reception, secretarial and nursing staff.

Attend clinical and practice meetings.

You will be expected to take part in regular clinical meetings monthly and also have the opportunity of attending monthly in-house educational meetings.

Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines, e.g.prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety, annual QOF Assessment of the Practice.
