Job summary

We are looking for a Healthcare Assistant who has experience of working in a GP Practice to join the team at Wadebridge and Camel Estuary Practice.

Our aim is to always provide excellent care to our patient population.

The role is for 24 hours a week. However, flexibility is essential as you will be required to cover for holiday and sickness on occasions. Previous experience as a Healthcare Assistant working in General practice is essential. An Enhanced DBS check will be required for this role.

Main duties of the job

As a Healthcare Assistant, you will support the practice team in delivering a range of clinical and administrative tasks, including but not limited to:

Undertake NHS health checks

Support the practice nurses with health promotion programmes

Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature and pulse rate, recording findings accurately

Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly

Undertake wound care, dressings, dopplers and other clinical tasks as required

Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics

Carry out BMI checks as directed

Act as a chaperone as required

Undertake venepuncture

Administer flu vaccinations

Carry out ECGs as requested

Facilitate 24-hour ECG monitoring

Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation

Provide support during minor operations as required

Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session

Ensure resuscitation equipment is checked on a monthly basis

Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance

Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the organisations IPC policy

Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate

About us

We are a dynamic, supportive training practice. The clinical team currently consists of 6 GPs (2 GP Partners), a nurse practitioner, practice nurses and HCAs. We have an excellent team of dispensers, receptionists and administrative staff.

We are members of the North Cornwall Coast Primary Care Network and work very closely with our neighbouring practices providing a Social Prescriber, Mental Health Care Practitioners, Pharmacist, Paramedic and First Contact Physiotherapist.
