Job summary
We are looking for a skilled and patient-focused Phlebotomist or Healthcare Assistant to join our friendly and forward-thinking GP practice. This is a key role supporting both our clinical team and our patients, helping ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality care every day.
Working Hours:
Monday: 8am to 4.30pm
Thursday: 8am to 4.30pm
Main duties of the job
You will support the clinical team by providing high-quality, patient-centred care, including blood testing and routine clinical observations. You will contribute to chronic disease and vaccination clinics, ensuring patients are seen efficiently and safely.
Working closely with nurses, GPs and administrative staff, you will help maintain smooth patient flow, accurate clinical records and high standards of infection control, playing an important role in the day-to-day delivery of primary care services.

Job responsibilities
Obtain informed consent from patients prior to procedures

Carry out venepuncture in line with practice policies and clinical protocols

Monitor and record blood pressure and other routine observations

Support clinics for patients with long-term conditions such as diabetes, asthma and hypertension

Record all activity accurately on the clinical system and prepare specimens for transport

Label, package and store samples correctly and safely
-
Maintain and use the specimen log, resolving any discrepancies promptly
-
Ensure samples are dispatched to the laboratory in a timely manner
-
Liaise effectively with NHS Trust laboratory staff when required
-
Work closely with the nursing team and seek advice for patient-related concerns

Act as a chaperone when needed

Dispose of clinical waste appropriately and manage sharps in line with IPC policy

Follow national and local protocols and practice procedures

Adhere to safeguarding policies for adults and children and relevant legislation

Complete all mandatory training and induction
