Ailsa Craig Medical Practice is seeking an enthusiastic and committed Locum GP to join our friendly and supportive team to cover maternity leave for 12 months from August 2026.
6 sessions per week
Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
Includes 1 day on-call per week
We are a well-established GP practice in Central Manchester serving a patient population of approximately 11,100 patients and operating a total triage model.
The Role

Main duties of the job
In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make themselves available to undertake a variety of duties including clinical patient triage, surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries,visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork, referrals and correspondence in a timely manner.
Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation. Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and un-diagnosed problems. Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
In consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols,developing care plans for health. Providing counselling and health education.
Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.
Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions
Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate. In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care

Duties will also include reviewing test results, hospital correspondence, prescriptions, and clinical tasks, as well as maintaining accurate clinical records of all consultations using EMIS Web.
You will work collaboratively with our clinical and administrative teams to ensure the delivery of safe, effective, and responsive care. The role also involves supporting continuity of care, safeguarding responsibilities, and maintaining high clinical standards.
The GP will be supported by a strong multidisciplinary team, including experienced nursing staff, pharmacists, and admin.
