Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an ambitious, enthusiasticHealthcare Assistantto join our team in County Surgery

As aHealthcare Assistant,you will assist the GP's and nursing team in delivering safe, high-quality primary care services to our patients. We are passionate about advancing Primary Care to meet the current and future challenges and strive to be resilient and sustainable whilst providing high-quality care.

Main duties of the job

  • Experience of working as an HCA in a clinical environment
  • Good working knowledge of medical terminology
  • Working knowledge of clinical computer systems
  • Good communication skills with both colleagues and patients/clients
  • Ability to self-motivate, organise and prioritise own workload, with good organisation and time management skills

Job description

Job responsibilities

Undertake new patient health checks

Support the practice nursing team with heal promotion programmes

Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximitery, blood pressure, temperature and pulse rate, and record finding accurately

Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly

Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required

Support the practice nursing team with the management of chronic disease clinics

Carry out BMI checks as directed

Act as a chaperone when required

Undertake venepuncture once trained

Administer flu vaccinations once trained

Carry out ECGs as requested

Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation

Provide support during minor operations as required

Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session

Ensure fridges are routinely cleaned in accordance with current guidance

Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with practice IPC policy

Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate
