Grangewood
Surgery is situated at the south end of Washington, near to the famous Penshaw Monument. There are excellent transport links to Newcastle,
Sunderland and Durham via the nearby A1M and A19.
Shiney Row
is a large former mining village with a stable community and a significant
amount of new housing.
We currently
have a vacancy for a salaried GP, and can offer flexibility with the number of sessions. There is also the opportunity to progress to
partnership if desired.
Our workload is well managed with 15 minute appointments and 25 routine appointments per day, minimal visiting allows more time with patients.
We have a
track record of involvement in new and innovative ways of delivering care,
often through multidisciplinary working. We are actively involved in our local
PCN, with one partner serving as Clinical Director, giving us a key role in shaping future primary care and neighbourhood developments. As a result,
we have excellent local working relationships.
We also engage actively with PCNs and practices across the city and one
partner is the LMC Chair.

Main duties of the job
Use your knowledge and professional skill to provide a high standard of care for all our registered patients.
In accordance with the Practice appointment system, underake a variety of duties including practice consultations, telephone consultations, telephone triage, visiting patients at home and participating in the Duty Doctor rota.
Provide consultations during clinics, dealing with a wide range of
health needs
Undertake duty doctor activity and on call tasks
Provide appropriate clinical care, management, and referrals
Use EMIS Web for all patient records and administration
Complete relevant medical documentation, including reports, referrals,
prescriptions. All relevant paperwork and correspondence to be
completed in a timely, auditable manner.
Work in accordance with the Practices clinical
procedures and protocols.
Collaborate effectively with the nursing team, admin team, and community
staff.
Support the quality, diversity and rights of patients, carers and colleagues.
Engage in regular practice meetings, clinical governance, and
educational activities
Participate in monthly protected CPD afternoons and utilise allocated
PDP time
Contribute to the continued development of the PCN and multidisciplinary
working
Support learners including F2s, registers, or medical students.
About us
We provide a friendly and supportive environment, and we feel this
contributes to our low staff turnover and the excellent working relationships
within our team. We meet daily for coffee and monthly for an afternoon of
protected time for a practice CPD meeting, in addition to providing time for
personal PDP activity, as per standard BMA contract terms.
We feel our practice size contributes significantly to the development of good working relationships and importantly, good continuity of care, allowing the development of close doctor/patient relationships over protracted timescales. We felt that this was an important factor in the practice recently being listed amongst the highest scoring practices in the ICB region for patient satisfaction in the latest NHS national patient survey and we were commended by the ICB Chair and Chief Executive for our achievement.
We take a pro-active and innovative approach to the health of our population and have received recognition for this as one of the only practices in the North East and Yorkshire reaching lipid targets in hypertension. Our GPs have specialist interests including medical education,
musculoskeletal medicine, respiratory medicine, ENT, women's health and
diabetes. We are actively involved with the local frailty team and Care homes in
the area.
