Blackburn Road Medical Centre is looking to expand their widely skilled nursing team withA Trainee Phlebotomist. You will be supported in learning how to safely collect blood samples from patients.
Main duties of the job
Learn how to take blood samples using safe, approved techniques
Prepare patients by explaining procedures calmly and clearly
Label and handle blood samples correctly to avoid errors
Follow strict hygiene, safety, and infection-control rules
Maintain clean equipment and work areas
Record basic patient and sample information accurately
Support senior phlebotomists, nurses, or lab staff

Job Summary
The Trainee Phlebotomist will undertake training to develop the skills and knowledge required to safely collect blood samples from patients for diagnostic testing. The role involves supervised practical work, learning correct procedures, and supporting the clinical team while working towards competency as a qualified phlebotomist.
Clinical Duties

Learn and assist with venepuncture under supervision

Prepare patients for blood collection, explaining procedures clearly and calmly

Ensure correct identification of patients prior to procedures

Label, store, and transport blood samples accurately and safely

Observe and follow infection prevention and control procedures

Recognise and report any issues or adverse reactions to senior staff
Administrative Duties

Accurately record patient and sample information

Maintain stock levels of phlebotomy supplies

Ensure equipment is clean, safe, and well maintained

Follow data protection and confidentiality guidelines at all times
