Job summary
Applications are invited for an experienced Pharmacy Technician certified in pharmaceutical science / pharmacy services and holding current registration to join our Primary Care Team in this exciting new role. This is a part-time post working 18.75 hours.
A long-standing, well respected GP practice covering a semi-rural area between Lichfield and Burton on Trent, with easy vehicle access as we are situated just off the A38 close to the National Memorial Arboretum, Alrewas Surgery aims to offer a welcoming, high quality GP service to all its patients.
Main duties of the job
You will support the GPs and Clinical Pharmacists by undertaking a patient facing / patient support role to ensure effective and safe medication use. You will carry out duties such as medicine optimisation tasks, supporting medication reviews, reconciling medications and processing prescription queries. You will support the process of external and internal audits regarding effective medication use and prescribing. You will assist in the processes relating to medicine safety tasks and cost effective prescribing and will work closely with the administration team to ensure smooth, safe and effective workflows in the management of the repeat medication requests and associated medication reviews.
About us
Located in the village of Alrewas, near the National Memorial Arboretum and close to the eastern Staffordshire/Derbyshire border. Just off A38, easily commutable from Derby/Birmingham.
We have 7300 registered patients and are growing rapidly. There is one dementia specialist care home within our catchment area.
The team currently consists of 3 GPs, 4 practice nurses, 1 HCA, 2 clinical pharmacists , 1 care co-ordinator and an experienced and supportive management and administrative team

Working under
the supervision of the Clinical Pharmacist you will ensure the safe, accurate
and timely supply of prescribed medication to patients, and will provide
technical and administrative support to the Clinical Pharmacist and Clinicians.
Carry out
medicines optimisation tasks including effective medicine administration (e.g.
checking inhaler technique), supporting medication reviews. Where required,
utilise consultation skills to work in partnership with patients to ensure they
are using their medicines effectively.
Undertaking
medication reconciliation in line with practice standard operating procedures.
Support
medication reviews and medicines reconciliation for new care home patients and
synchronising medicines for patient transfers between care settings, linking
with local community pharmacies.
Support the
Clinical Pharmacist in Structure Medication Reviews (SMR), such as organising
necessary monitoring tests prior to SMR.
Provide
expertise to address both the public health and social care needs of patients,
including lifestyle advice, service information, and help in tackling local
health inequalities.
Manage shared
care protocols and liaise with Clinical Pharmacist for more complex patients.
Support
initiatives for antimicrobial stewardship to reduce inappropriate antibiotic
prescribing locally.
