Job summary
Beaufort Road Surgery are looking for a part-time Practice Nurse to join our growing, dynamic and friendly team. Ideally we would like applicants with Primary Care experience, but will consider training the right candidate.
We offer access to the NHS Pensions scheme, free, on site parking and are located just a few minutes walk from Southbourne high street and beaches. We close between 1 and 2pm each day and many of our employees take this opportunity to make the most of our surrounding area.
The working days and times are flexible to suit the right applicant.
Main duties of the job
Our Practice Nurses hold their own clinics providing a range of services. These currently include:
Immunisations
Wound care
Cervical smears
Chronic Disease Management- asthma, COPD and diabetes reviews
Spirometry
Travel Vaccinations
ECGs
Our Nursing team also assist GPs with minor ops and are responsible for updating the patient records using our clinical system, Systm1.

Job summary
To provide and maintain a high standard of nursing care for patients, as well as providing nursing assistance to the doctors and other members of the primary healthcare team. The duties will include all tasks normally undertaken by an experienced RGN and any additional roles agreed between the nurse and the doctors as appropriate, having regard to current training.
Job responsibilities
Professional
- Offer a holistic approach to travel health by providing comprehensive advice to patients prior to travel including; vaccinations and medicines, safe sex, food hygiene, sun protection
- Offer advice about childhood and adult vaccinations and ensure vaccines are administered under patient group directions
- Running well person clinics and health promotion programmes, facilitating change by providing holistic assessment and lifestyle advice on diet, smoking, alcohol intake and exercise
- Assessing problems presented opportunistically by patients, dealing with minor illness.
- Able to document Consultations according to NMC guidelines
- Ensures awareness of statutory and local clinical protection procedures, including systems of referral. Ability to recognise signs and symptoms of child abuse.
- Perform screening of patients attending for cervical cytology smear tests.
- Perform venepuncture according to local guidelines
- Provide a holistic approach to wound management and implement wound care in line with current evidence based guidelines, to include Doppler assessment and compression bandaging if qualified
- Chronic Disease Management relevant to experience/qualifications to include Asthma/COPD/ and/or Diabetes.
- Perform Suture removal
- Take ECGs
- Administer injections as prescribed by medical practitioner for adults, children and babies.
- Flu and COVID vaccination clinics
- Chaperoning where appropriate
- Able to recognize and manage anaphylaxis according to current UK guidelines
- Able to perform Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation according to current UK guidelines
- Fitting and removal of 24hr Ambulatory Blood Pressure Machine
- Ability to obtain and document informed consent (either verbal or written)
- Ensure infection control guidelines are maintained
- Ability to monitor and manage maintenance of stock and equipment to include refrigeration, and emergency equipment
