Job summary

We are looking for a motivated and caring Practice Nurse to join our friendly GP surgery. The role includes managing long term conditions, treatment room duties, immunisations, cervical screening, wound care and supporting the wider clinical team. Experience in primary care is essential.

Main duties of the job

  • Chronic disease management (e.g., asthma, COPD, diabetes, hypertension)

  • Treatment room duties (wound care, ECGs, injections, Venepuncture)

  • Immunisations & vaccinations (adult and childhood)

  • Cervical cytology

  • Contraception Reviews

  • Supporting QOF and enhanced services

  • Health promotion and patient education

Requirements:

  • Registered General Nurse with current NMC registration

  • Experience in a GP practice essential

  • Confident in IT systems and accurate record-keeping

  • Able to work independently and as part of a team

Job responsibilities

Key Duties & Responsibilities 1. Treatment Room Duties
  • Wound care and dressings

  • Leg ulcer management

  • ECGs, blood pressure checks, urine testing

  • Venepuncture

  • Administration of injections (e.g., B12, contraception, travel vaccines)

2. Chronic Disease Management

(Depending on competencies and training)

  • Asthma reviews

  • COPD reviews

  • Diabetes monitoring and education

  • Hypertension management

  • Coronary heart disease reviews

  • Supporting QOF and enhanced services

3. Immunisations & Vaccinations
  • Childhood immunisation programme

  • Adult immunisations, including influenza

  • Travel health advice and vaccinations

4. Womens Health
  • Cervical cytology

  • Contraception advice (within competence)

  • Menopause advice and support (if applicable)

5. Health Promotion & Screening
  • Smoking cessation

  • Weight management and lifestyle advice

  • NHS Health Checks

  • Long-term condition self-management support

6. Clinical Governance & Administration
  • Accurate documentation using clinical IT systems (SystmOne)

  • Ensuring safe storage, rotation and disposal of vaccines/medicines

  • Compliance with infection prevention and control standards

  • Participation in audits, meetings and service development

  • Maintaining confidentiality and safeguarding responsibilities

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse with valid NMC PIN

  • Cervical screening qualification

  • Chronic disease qualification desirable

Experience
  • Experience in a primary care setting essential

  • Experience in treatment room skills and patient assessments
