Job summary

We are looking to recruit a phlebotomist to join our well established, friendly and very busy practice.

The post involves taking blood from patients as requested and ensuring proper labelling and handling, maintaining a clear and safe environment.

Dropping samples off at the lab at RPH or CDH which will be rostered into the end of your working day.

Ideally you will have experience of the clinical environment and the delivery of hands-on care.

You must have good people, communication and IT skills. The ability to work as part of the bigger team whilst using your own initiative is essential.

If successful, you will find the job interesting as well as challenging at times. The successful candidate will be supported by the nursing team.

The post is for working over 3 1/2 days

You must be self-motivated, conscientious, professional, enthusiastic and able to use your own initiative.

The successful candidate must be an active team player and be very flexible to work within a team.

Salary Dependent on experience.

27 days holiday (whole time hours) plus bank holidays.

Main duties of the job

  • Perform venepuncture collection on patients of all ages, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
  • Maintain accurate records of blood samples collected and ensure proper labelling for identification.
  • Utilise appropriate medical terminology when communicating with healthcare professionals and patients.
  • Work collaboratively with laboratory staff to ensure efficient processing of samples.
  • Adhere to infection control protocols and aseptic techniques during all procedures.
  • Provide basic life support when necessary and assist in emergency situations.
  • Educate patients about the blood collection process, addressing any concerns or questions they may have.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the work area, ensuring all equipment is properly sterilised and stored.
  • Participate in ongoing training and development to stay current with best practices in phlebotomy.
