Job summary

MEDICAL ADMINISTRATOR

PERMANENT WITH A 3 MONTH PROBATIONARY PERIOD

35 hours per week, to be worked over 5 days, between 8.00 am and 5.00 pm. We can accommodate some flexibility over start and finish times.

Salary scale - £12.21.We are looking for a friendly, enthusiastic individual with excellent computer and communication skills to work as part of our practice admin team. Excellent MS Word processing skills and basic MS Excel skills are an essential requirement, along with, data entry experience and internet skills. Previous General Practice/NHS experience and knowledge of medical terminology and clinical coding would be a distinct advantage. The ideal candidate must have the ability to work to agreed timescales and targets whilst maintaining a high level of confidentiality. Cover for colleagues will be expected and flexibility is essential for this post.

Main duties of the job

Scanning of letters and relevant correspondence into the correct patient notes in a timely fashion.

Processing correspondence received electronically.

Extraction and coding of necessary data and test results from clinical correspondence and input into the electronic patient record; ensuring accuracy and compliance with Practice policy.

Ensure data is entered in a consistent manner, appropriately coded and dated; and under the appropriate headings. E.g. problem, examination, history etc.

Identify current/active; new and review episodes of problems and record appropriately.

Develop a good working knowledge of the clinical system.

Monitor the Documents section of EMIS Web Workflow Manager in the absence of the Practice Administrator.

Manage and maintain recall systems and produce mail merge recall letters for chronic disease clinics as required.

Booking in new patient notes and summarising medical records.

Undertake validation of clinical registers as required.

Any other duties as requested by the Practice Manager.

Attend any training as requested by the Practice Manager.

Barnoldswick Medical Centre is central to Barnoldswick. We have 4 GOP partners and 3 salaried GPs. 1x Advanced Nurse Practitioner, 4x Practice Nurses, 3x Health Care Assistants who together work with an extended clinical team from Pendle PCN to provide good care to the local community. We are also a training practice helping the next generation of GP's.
