Job summary

The Health and Safety Auditor/Advisor will support the promotion of a proactive Health and Safety culture throughout the PCN. This will contribute to reducing incidents, accidents, and near-miss events by providing expert health and safety advice and guidance. The role involves supporting the management of non-clinical risks, promoting the use of safe working practices, and ensuring the highest standard of professional health and safety guidance. This will help create a safe and secure environment for delivering high standards of clinical care for patients.

The post-holder will primarily provide specialist advice to all employees but will also offer guidance on patient-related accidents, injuries, and safety matters in clinical environments.

About us

The Brunel Primary Care Network consists of three Practices across Portsmouth; East Shore Partnership, The Lighthouse Group and University Surgery.

Job responsibilities

Incident Management: Manage and investigate incidents, accidents, and near-miss events to identify root causes and propose corrective actions.

COSHH Management: Manage and maintain the online COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) database.

Health and Safety Training: Develop and deliver health and safety training to staff, ensuring compliance with relevant CSTF (Core Skills Training Framework) requirements where applicable.

Policy Writing and Updating: Assist in the creation, writing, and updating of health and safety policies and procedures.

Auditing and Reporting: Conduct health and safety audits across the Trust, write comprehensive reports, and provide recommendations for improvement.

Specialist Advice: Offer specialist advice on various health and safety issues, including risk assessments, safety equipment, and best practices.

Risk Assessments: Advise on suitable safety equipment, conduct safety risk assessments, and ensure that identified risks are effectively mitigated.

RIDDOR Reporting: Oversee the reporting of accidents and incidents under the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases, and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (RIDDOR).

Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience in a health and safety related role or equivalent
  • Proven ability to communicate at all levels.
  • A solid understanding of health and safety legislation, risk assessments, COSHH, RODDOR and DSE regulations.
  • Working in the NHS and with clinical and non-clinical roles
  • Familiar with using Microsoft packages

Desirable

  • Experience of working across departments and organisational boundaries
  • Familiar with using SystmOne

Qualifications

Essential

  • GCSE Grade A to C in English and Maths or equivalent.
  • NEBOSH Certificate in Occupational Safety & Health or equivalent qualification
  • Good working knowledge of current health and safety related legislation
