Job summary

We are looking for a Physician Associate to join our team, the role will require you to participate in all aspects of patient care through knowledge gained from your PA training. You will be working as part of an allied healthcare professional team including Practice Nurses, Pharmacists and Healthcare Assistants and will be supported and supervised by a GP.

Under supervision of the GP in the practice, the post holder will provide care for the presenting patient from focused history taking, clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of care. The postholder will demonstrate safe, clinical decision making and expert care, including assessment and diagnostic skills, for patients within the service. The post holder will demonstrate critical thinking in the decision making process. They will work collaboratively with the healthcare team to meet the needs of the patients, supporting the delivery of policy and procedures. The post holder will provide a holistic and clinical service, with support and supervision of GPs, implementing agreed management plans and following approved protocols as appropriate.

Main duties of the job

Roles and responsibilities:
  • Under supervision of a GP, you will be required to:

  • Work clinical sessions consisting of either telephone triage appointments, face to face appointments or both
  • Conduct home visits (acute (on the day) and chronic (holistic assessments)
  • Triage incoming pathology results and documents
  • Act upon alerts (e.g. QOF, local enhanced services etc.) and reminders during a consultation

Our staff comprises of five GPs, two practice nurses, one HCA, Mental Health Practitioner, Social Prescribers, Paramedic, and a reception and administrative team.

Clinical

1.

Assisting Physicians when requested to do so in the direct and immediate treatment of patients

2.

Conducting physical examinations of patients and performing medical procedures

3.

Ordering blood and other medical tests as required and analysing the results

4.

Developing a relationship with patients and providing them with information on healthy living and disease prevention

5.

Creating treatment plans for diagnosed patients

6.

Work independently with appropriate support from Physicians

7.

Act as chaperone when required

8.

Undertake health promotion to help educate patients

9.

Referring patients to Specialists

Administration

10.

To maintain accurate patient records and enter onto the computer using agreed SNOMED Codes

11.

Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient health care

12.

To collect data and participate in regular Practice audit and research projects

13.

To contribute to the preparation of any Practice development plans

General

14.

To maintain own up to date registration with the appropriate Registering Authority

15.

To maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for all staff, patients, carers and co-workers from other agencies.

16.

To promote a professional approach at all times by attire and attitude to patients and staff both in and out of the Practice

17.

To maintain own continuous professional development and ensure PDP kept up-to-date in line with the requirements of the Practice
