Job summary

We are looking for a HCA to support the growth of the practice, who will work under the direct supervision of the senior practice nurse in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide care to patients according to and by following practice approved protocols.
  • To order and maintain clinical stocks and equipment.
  • To ensure all consulting and treatment rooms are prepared and maintained for effective consultation.
  • To provide support to other members of the Practice Clinical team as required.

Job description

Job responsibilities

MAIN DUTIES:

  • Perform venepuncture for patients
  • Take and record blood pressures using templates as requested by other members of the clinical team
  • Take and record temperatures and pulse
  • Perform ECGs as required
  • Administer influenza, pneumococcal and B6 injections
  • To undertake ear irrigation
  • Test urine specimens using appropriate equipment and record as requested
  • Weigh and measure patients
  • Act as a chaperone
  • Prepare equipment and rooms for minor procedures performed in the Practice and assist GPs during the procedure (e.g. handing equipment to GP and adjusting lighting).
  • Dress patients wounds as directed by other members of the clinical team
  • Glue minor wounds as directed by other members of the clinical team
  • Provide health promotion advice to patients about weight management, alcohol and smoking cessation
  • Act as chaperone
  • To be competent in anaphylaxis and resuscitation techniques for emergency management.
  • Ensure all consulting and treatment rooms are prepared and maintained for effective consultation, including restocking clinical supplies and removing clinical waste.
  • Ensure all agreed items are ordered and provided in all clinical rooms.
  • Maintain clinical equipment efficiently ensuring calibration and servicing is undertaken.

  • In all circumstances be aware of and maintain the highest standards of confidentiality in recognition of internal and external policy and legislation.

PERSONAL
  • Taking personal responsibility for reading and, where appropriate, responding to e-mail communication to and from MMP team and external organisations.
  • To work in a safe manner at all times and to comply with the organisations operational health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Recognise areas of conflict, preventing where possible and reporting to senior members of staff if unable to resolve
  • To ensure personal knowledge base is kept up-to-date and to take ownership for own personal and professional development.
