Here at Billinghay Medical Practice, we have an exciting opportunity for
a Dispenser/ Dispensary Assistant to join the team. We are looking for the right candidate
to work 27 hours a week, alongside the experienced dispensary team.
The contracted hours would be:
Monday- 8:30-17:30
Tuesday- 9:00-18:30
Thursday- 12:30-17:30
Friday 13:00-18:30
The ideal candidate will be qualified to NVQ Level 2 or above and have previous dispensary experience, while being confident working with the general public/patients. However, for the right candidate, as a Practice, we would support you to gain your NVQ Level 2.
Interviews are due to take place week commencing 23rd June 2025.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate would work as part of an excellent, experienced dispensary team, who remain adaptable and considerate to changes within General Practice
and the NHS.
The successful candidate would be responsible for dispensing medication to the entitled patient population in an accurate and timely manner.
A sensitive and empathetic approach alongside a flexible,
cooperative, professional nature and the desire to put patient safety and
quality of service at the forefront are essential characteristics that we will
be looking for.
Previous experience working in a GP setting is an advantage however, not
essential as full training will be provided.
About us
Billinghay Medical Practice is a rural and caring practice which
provides a range of services for the 5,000 patients who are registered with us.
We have a skilled and experienced team comprising of 3 GPs, 3 Nurse Practitioners, Paramedic Practitioner, Clinical Care Co-ordinator and an excellent nursing team.
Alongside these we have a highly motivated and competent Reception /
Administration and Dispensary teams.

The successful candidate will project a positive and friendly image to dispensary
customers and other visitors, while dealing with queries in a professional,
courteous and efficient way, ensuring a high-level of service is delivered at
all times.
To be responsible for the preparation and dispensing of prescriptions in
accordance with Practice policies and current legislation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The following are the core responsibilities of the Dispenser. There may
be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent
upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:
- Dispense
prescriptions to the entitled population in accordance with Practice
policies and procedures, ensuring there are no discrepancies
- Support
the Dispensary Supervisors in ensuring a high-level of service is
delivered at all times
- Collection
of prescription charges/checking patient exemption statements
- Cash handling and banking
- Operation of efficient stock
control appropriate to the needs of the dispensary with the objective of
ensuring continuity of supply for patients and minimising wastage
- Ensuring that drugs are
received and stored in an appropriate manner in accordance with the
manufacturers instructions
- Ensuring that refrigerated
items are stored at the appropriate temperature and maintaining the
cold chain rule
- Providing
patients with advice regarding all prescription matters
- Ensuring
controlled drugs are dispensed within accordance to the practice policy
- Remain
current with the latest guidance ensuring the dispensary conforms to SOPs,
NICE, CQC etc guidance
- Cleaning work surfaces and shelving
on a regular basis and ensuring that all dispensary equipment is kept
clean and kept in good working order.
- Maintaining full and
accurate records of all dispensing transactions.
- Undertaking any other
reasonable tasks as requested by the Lead Dispenser, Dispensary Manager, Practice
Manager or the Partners.
