Job summary

Shaftesbury Medical Centre are a small family run GP Practice in the heart of Harrow.

We have just over 5000 registered patients.

We are seeking to find a salaried GP to join our great team.

About us

We are a small GP Practice with 2 female GP's and 1 male GP who are assisted by 20 other staff members ranging from pharmacy technician's, physician associates, receptionists & administrators.

We are also a training practice and have many students throughout the year attend to complete their training.

Job Summary

The post-holder will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.

Principle Clinical Responsibilities

  • In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, duty GP, mother and baby checks, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, pathology results, paperwork and docman/correspondence in a timely fashion
  • To be able to consult safely and competently in a variety of modes such as F2F, telephone, video or online.
  • Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation
  • Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
  • Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
  • In consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health
  • Providing counselling and health education
  • Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate
  • Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards including using appropriate Read Codes
  • Collecting data for audit purposes
  • Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible)
  • Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate
  • In general the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.
  • When required assist with private medical reports/examinations in contracted hours.
  • When required assist with weekly ward round of Nursing Home.

Additional Role

  • Participating in meeting and completing QOF targets.
  • Participating and assisting with Prescribing Audits.
  • Participating and assisting with Enhanced/LIS Services.
  • When required Participate in Extended Hours Rota following mutual agreement
  • Assisting with the supervision of GP Trainees.
