Job summary
Woodfield
Medical Centre is a large practice of 22,000 patients in the Grimsby area.
The
HCA we are looking for will become a central part of the large clinical team
providing a range of health care for patients from health checks and
vaccinations to assisting GPs with minor surgery.
As
a training practice we are responsive to the development needs of our
employees and the changing NHS.
Main duties of the job
HCAs
in the practice are an essential part of the clinical team supporting the GP
and nursing team while providing high quality patient care within their own responsibilities.
As
a HCA within the practice you will develop the skills in the following areas:
Health checks (including NHS health checks and Hypertension)
Stitch removal and basic wound care
Testing (ECGs/ Spirometry/ 24 Hour BP/ Blood samples/ Audiogram)
Vaccination and injection (B12/ Pneumonia/ Influenza)
These
are just a few of the varied roles the HCA will undertake within the practice
setting in an ever changing dynamic and developing NHS.

Job responsibilities
The job profile for the role is:
Staff in this role work under the indirect supervision of a
registered practitioner, practice nurses and assistant practitioner. It is highly recommended that they will have
achieved the basic competencies of the Care Certificate and will be able to
work under their own initiative, taking responsibility for delegated tasks,
including defined clinical and therapeutic interventions within the limits of
their competence, to deliver routine clinical and non-clinical duties,
including patient treatment and care. Their work is guided by standard operating
policies, procedures and agreed protocols.
An HCA would also be expected to exercise some autonomy and make
non-complex decisions so as to assist in patient care evaluation and in broader
service development, and quality assurance activities i.e. Audit. They will be expected to answer simple
patient queries and be flexible in supporting patients and demonstrate key behaviorsconsistent with delivering compassionate care. They may also provide supervision to more
junior members of staff as and when appropriate. The HCA will be accountable to all partners,
practice manager and assistant practitioner.
