Job summary

Are you an experienced Health Care Assistant (HCA) who enjoys working in a busy, friendly team? Or perhaps you are someone who would like to become an HCA? We are a 5 site Practice based along the Buckinghamshire/Oxfordshire border and are wanting to recruit a part time HCA. The successful applicant would work mainly in the Brill branch but would also be expected to work across the other sites as necessary. If you are someone who is new to this role, all training would be provided and you would be supported to undertake the Care Certificate course.

Main duties of the job

The role consists of phlebotomy, long term condition monitoring, NHS Health checks, flu vaccination administration, health promotion.

Hours are between 20 and 25 per week.

Pay £11.55 per hour, negotiable depending on experience.

About us

Within our nursing team we have Practice Nurses, Nurse Associate Apprentices and Health Care Assistants. We have regular team meetings and provide inhouse training as required.

Job responsibilities

To assist in patient care and practice related duties as directed by and under the supervision of a registered healthcare professional. The post holder will work collaboratively with the general practice team to meet the needs of patients, following practice procedures and policies.

Undertake record and follow guidelines for the tasks for which you have received appropriate training to deliver a high standard of patient care including:

Venepuncture.

INR monitoring

ECG

ABPM

Home blood pressure monitoring

Pulse rate and rhythm

Height, weight and BMI

Influenza vaccinations for over 65 years under PSD

Data collection for care planning

Foot checks for diabetic annual review

Blood pressure

Smoking status and advice

Suture removal

Health checks - promotion of self-care

Urinalysis and sending of specimens for investigation by the pathology laboratory.

Ensure all samples are correctly labelled and ready for dispatch to the laboratory at the appropriate time. It will be necessary to know how to use a manual and electronic test request system.

Prepare and maintain the environment and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions.

Give accurate and appropriate information to patients within your own competence.

Assist in raising awareness of health and well-being and how this can be promoted.
