Practice Nurse (maternity cover)

Job summary

We are a CQC rated 'outstanding' GP practice. We are a large practice with a 17,500 list size and a large staff team, working in a purpose-built building in Muswell Hill, N10. We are looking for a Practice Nurse to cover maternity leave for 1 year. As a GP Practice Nurse, you will be an integral part of our primary care team, providing essential nursing services to our patients. You will work closely with GPs, healthcare assistants, and other practice staff to ensure the highest standards of patient care.

Main duties of the job

You will be completing the usual Practice Nurse duties;

Child and adult immunisations

Cervical Screening

Long term condition checks, including phlebotomy

Wound care and dressings

Asthma checks

Travel

Job responsibilities:

Vaccination and Immunisation

Understand the implications of vaccination and immunisation and of the contraindications. Advise patients accordingly

Administer to children and adults immunisations following latest guidance/PGDs such as baby/child immunisations, Seasonal Flu, Pneumonia, Pertussis, Shingles, RSV, B12, Vitamin D, Zoladex, Depo-Provera Contraceptive and Antipsychotic Depot Injections.

Provide appropriate travel health advice and immunisation for travellers

To order the appropriate amount of vaccine weekly on immform on AAH.

Diagnostic Testing, Screening and Health Promotion

Cervical Screening

Advise patients about reducing the risk of sexually transmitted diseases

Diagnostic swabs as appropriate

Chronic disease monitoring e.g. Diabetes, Asthma and COPD

Agree management plans with patients and their carers as appropriate

Height, weight and blood pressure checks or venesection as part of consultations

Contraceptive Pill Checks

Health promotion - dietary advice, smoking advice, alcohol advice and wellbeing advice

Urinalysis

Ear checks

Treatment Room

Minor Injuries

Wound care and dressings

Removal of stiches/clips

Administration Maintain accurate patient records, ensure details of all consultations and treatments are recorded onto the patients notes using templates and standard codes as appropriate Attend and participate in practice team meetings as required

Assist with development and updating of clinical protocols

Participate in clinical audit e.g. cervical smear monitoring

Comply with Infection Control Guidelines and Cold Chain Policy

Liaison with community and secondary care as appropriate

Assist with QOF and enhanced services achievement

Provide telephone advise to patients where appropriate

Monitoring and maintenance of emergency resuscitation equipment e.g. defibrillator/oxygen cylinder

Monitoring and maintenance of in date emergency drugs supply

Maintain adequate stocks of dressings, drugs, vaccinations, instruments, specimen bottles, diagnostic agents etc

To be the infection control lead for the practice

To ensure the cold chain is maintained in the fridges and conduct checking of the data loggers on a monthly basis

To work with the Health Care Assistants to ensure checks are made at determined intervals of stock, the drug cupboard and the emergency bag.

Maintain own up to date registration with the NMC

To be conversant with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and understand the importance of professional accountability

Ensure Professional Indemnity Maintained (MDU/Practice Group Scheme)

To act at all times in the best interests of the surgery, staff and patients

Be flexible in approach to work to meet the changes and challenges of the NHS
