Job summary

Working within an experienced, supportive and friendly team undertaking a wide range of reception duties within a busy GP reception environment

To receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way.

Acting as the central point of contact for patients in a professional and helpful manner.

Provide general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone

To provide additional cover by working extra shifts where required (due to holiday/sickness) to ensure the smooth running of Reception, or where necessitated by the business as agreed with Management

Main duties of the job

Effective use of clinical appointment system, booking/cancelling and scheduling appointments, processing prescription requests and patient requests via the online booking system.

Preferably experience of EMIS Web & Docman but full training can be given to the right candidate.

Good telephone manner is essential

IT skills required

Confidence to work under pressure within a team is a necessity as well as the ability to exercise discretion and initiative.

Job description

Job responsibilities

GP Receptionist providing wide range of reception duties supporting both patients and the clinical teams

Booking/cancelling and re-scheduling appointments. Processing appointment requests for the day and in the future appropriately

Access incoming emails via generic inbox and processing request

Processing repeat prescription requests in accordance with Practice guidelines

Handing completed repeat prescriptions to patient checking names and address

Action GP, Nurse and Community team task requests

Have a working knowledge of clinical and telephone system (full training will be given)

Contacting patients where requested via telephone speaking in a professional manner

Answering incoming telephone calls in a timely and professional manner

Giving normal test results to patients at their request following strict Practice guidelines

Ensuring confidentiality and discretion at all times

Receiving and recording payments for patient medicals

Chaperone for clinicians

Taking deliveries and appropriately directing to relevant team

Scan and photocopy documents

Ensure building is secure, reception and waiting room are kept tidy

Be able to cover all duties and roles within the reception team as necessary

Any other duties commensurate with the role
