Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Brierley Park Medical Group for an enthusiastic individual to join our clinical team to support the delivery of high-level care for our patients.

Would suit student nurse due to qualify shortly, newly qualified nurse or nurse new to primary care.

Full driving license and access to own transport is essential.

You will be working as part of a primary care team that prides itself on the delivery of high-quality healthcare services and you will be well supported by the clinical team as well as friendly and enthusiastic admin team.

Main duties of the job

To provide and maintain a high standard of nursing care for patients, as well as providing nursing assistance to the doctors and other members of the primary healthcare team. Working independently with an extremely good support network.

Brierley Park Medical Group is a GMS practice with a list size of 18,650 patients. We are a training practice and many of our GPs have completed their training with us and stayed on as partners or salaried GPs. Our nursing team also have nursing students.

We offer patient centred care and our mission is to provide an holistic approach to this.

The practice is a level 4 Research Practice and is currently involved in several studies.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To provide and maintain a high standard of nursing care for patients, as well as providing nursing assistance to the doctors and other members of the primary healthcare team.

Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by senior nursing staff and GPs. Such tasks may include:

  • Long Term Care Reviews
  • Basic wound care / ulcer care
  • Removal of sutures/clips
  • Urinalysis
  • ECGs
  • Venepuncture
  • Routine injections/immunisations /travel vaccinations
  • INR point of care testing
  • Home visits
  • Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician
  • Requesting basic pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs
  • Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to senior nurses or GPs as appropriate

Other tasks including:

Undertake housekeeping duties including, general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms

Participation in administrative systems in the practice

Accurate and concise record keeping

A duty to advise senior nurses of potential problems or errors within the range of assigned tasks

Attend and participate in any practice meetings when required

A requirement to undertake home visits

Any other delegated duties appropriate to the posts

Ability to use own judgment, resourcefulness and common sense

A commitment to maintain a high professional standard of nursing care and keep up to date with all aspects of nursing care relevant to the post

A commitment to the effective use of practice and NHS resources

An awareness of own limitations and experience

To work only in accordance with the UKCC Code of Conduct and within the scope of professional practice

To have a written professional development plan and to maintain an up-to-date portfolio which meets the requirements of registration with the UKCC

Co-operate with annual appraisal meetings
