Job summary
Holmside Medical Group is seeking a Health Care Assistant (HCA) to join our friendly team, as Maternity cover fixed term for 1 year, 30 hours per week.
We are looking for someone who enjoys working in a busy environment and has a love of patient care.
The ideal candidate would have experience of working in a GP practice in a HCA role.However,as a minimumyou must have practical experience of delivering phlebotomy services* & be willing to learn the other elements of the role.

Main duties of the job
AHealthcare Assistant (HCA) in a GP practicesupports clinical staff by providing routine patient care, including health checks, phlebotomy, ECGs, and immunisations (e.g., flu, B12) under supervision. They improve patient experience, assist with infection control, manage stock, and maintain accurate records.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Clinical Duties:Phlebotomy, blood pressure checks, ECG monitoring, urinalysis, NHS health checks, and supporting chronic disease management.
- Vaccinations:Administering specific injections like influenza, pneumococcal, and B12 under a Patient Group Direction (PGD) or patient-specific direction.
- Patient Care:Providing lifestyle advice, offering health promotion support, and ensuring patient comfort.
- Administrative & Clinical Support:Ensuring consulting rooms are stocked and tidy, cleaning/sterilizing equipment, and managing vaccine inventory.
- Record Keeping:Updating patient health records accurately on GP IT systems.

for someone looking to combine clinical and patient management skills in a team
of Nurses and HCAs.
Main duties of the job
The Practice Health Care assistant will be involved in
Duties to include but not exhaustive:
Phlebotomy
Blood pressure and weight care management
ECG Recording
Vaccinations (under PSD)
Dressings and wound care management
Suture and clip removal
Specimen collection
Diabetic Health Checks
Health checks
Assisting GP during minor operations/Coils etc
Chaperoning as required
Clinical Waste Management & ensuring Infection Control standards are
met at all times
Cold chain storage, monitoring and recording
Stock management and restocking rooms
Patient Recalls
Care Certificate is required
The job will be 30 hours per week, including one 7am and one evening to
7.30pm to cater for the extended access. The extended access is completed on a
rota basis.
