Job summary
We are seeking a part time Dispenser to join our busy,
friendly and experienced dispensary team.
The successful candidate should hold a NVQ Level 2 in
Dispensing or equivalent qualification. We are looking for an enthusiastic,
professional and hardworking individual who demonstrates excellent
communication skills and is able to prioritise workload. Previous experience in
a GP setting and in using a clinical system (e.g. EMIS/TPP) would be
advantageous.
This post is for 23 hours per week, to be worked on
Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. We would also consider more hours for the right candidate. However, the successful candidate must offer
a high degree of flexibility to provide additional hours where required to
cover sickness and annual leave.
Salary: £11.06 per hour
Hours: 23 hours per week (more hours considered for the right candidate)

Main duties of the job
Working alongside a skilled dispensary team, you will be
responsible for providing an efficient and accurate service by dispensing
prescriptions, dealing with medication queries and undertaking general
dispensary tasks.

Duties and responsibilities:
- Dispense acute and authorised repeat prescriptions for patients of the Practice who live more than one mile from the chemist within the designated time period
- Print repeat prescriptions for town patients, including nursing and residential home occupants, and ensure these are signed by the relevant GP within the designated time period.
- Monitor drug stocks and re-order as necessary
- Ensure that drugs are stored in an appropriate manner in accordance with the accompanying instructions
- Deal with enquiries from patients regarding medication & liaise with medical personnel regarding these
- Liaise with other organisations e.g. chemists, drug companies, pharmaceutical wholesalers, to ensure medication is available to patients within the specified time period
- Dispose of waste drugs through approved channels on a regular basis
- Keep up to date with current practice prescribing trends, and government drug tariff
- Maintain full and accurate records of all dispensing transactions for patients
- Take prompt action in response to any drug alert bulletins that may be received
- Assist with domestic responsibilities, e.g. cleaning dispensary shelves
- Work as part of the dispensary team
- Work safely at all times in accordance with legislative requirements and practice Standard Operating Procedures
- Update Standard Operating Procedures as and when necessary
- Provide sickness and holiday cover as required
- Undertake any necessary training
- Undertake ad hoc duties as may reasonably be required by the practice management team, or by external bodies, e.g. Clinical Commission Group.
- Check all clinical correspondence and make any necessary amendments on patients records (when delegated to do so by Dispensary Manager)
- Check and count prescriptions for submission to NHS Prescription Services (when delegated to do so by Dispensary Manager).
