Job summary
Chet Valley Medical Practice in Loddon is looking for a part-time HCA to join their supportive, friendly team working 22.5 hours per week.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will work as part of the multi-disciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to the entitled patient population.
Having completed the Care Certificate or equivalent qualification, the HCA will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion and long-term condition management.
The HCA will facilitate team working and help to continually move the service forward.

Chet Valley Medical Practice is based within the town of Loddon in a spacious purpose-built premises.
We have a list size of around 9000 patients.
We respect the importance of good work/life balance and offer a minimum of 10-minutes for HCA appointments.
We have introduced a daily huddle where the team comes together at 8.20am to discuss the working day whilst enjoying a cup of fresh coffee. We recognise the importance of good communication and hold monthly team meetings, quarterly all staff meetings and regular events outside of work to improve team building.
All staff undergo an annual appraisal plus a minimum of quarterly1-2-1 meetings with their team lead.

Job responsibilities
The following are the core responsibilities of the Healthcare Assistant. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:
- Undertake new patient health checks.
- Undertake NHS health checks, learning disability reviews, mental health reviews and hypertension reviews once training is complete.
- Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes.
- Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature and peak flow, recording findings accurately.
- Facilitate routine and home BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly.
- Undertake wound care, including obtaining swabs and suture / clip removal when required.
- Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics.
- Carry out height, weight and BMI checks as directed.
- Act as a chaperone as required.
- When trained, undertake venepuncture
- When trained, undertake warfarin monitoring via INR star.
- When trained, administer flu, Pneumovax, Shingles vaccinations and other national vaccinations as required (working a Saturday when needed)
- Administer B12 injections as per PSD.
- Carry out ECGs as requested.
- Request pathology tests via Web ICE: including blood tests, urine and swab requests.
- Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation.
- Provide support during minor operations as required.
- Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session.
- Ensure fridge temperatures are recorded daily and that fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance.
- Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the organisations IPC policy.
- Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate.
- Check and maintain emergency equipment.
- Working with the team be responsible for the ordering of clinical equipment and dressings
- Working with the team, ensure adequate stock of childhood immunisations.
- Support the Lead nurse practitioner in the maintenance of infection control standards.
