Job summary
The Holbrook & Shotley Practice are looking to welcome a qualified Dispenser into our busy dispensing practice. You will play a full and active role as part of the practice team.
The hours will be worked across both our dispensaries at Holbrook and Shotley surgeries with additional hours as required to cover for annual leave and sickness.
We are looking for someone with a good understanding of Dispensing both operationally and commercially. The role has great opportunity for progression.
Main duties of the job
The main
responsibilities of the role include:
To process all relevant prescriptions and repeat prescriptions as
authorised by GP's and prescribing nurses where appropriate, in accordance with
the good practice principles of the Dispensing Services Quality Scheme;
To ensure that all medicines and appliances dispensed are checked
against the prescription and whenever there is doubt about the appropriateness
of the item, or about the dose or labelling instructions, to check with the
authorising doctor or duty doctor;
.Answering and dealing with dispensary phone enquiries;
Additionally as Lead Dispenser to be responsible for:
Organisation of Holiday and Sickness cover and
checking and submission of FP10s for reimbursement together with correction
and resubmission of returned FP10s
Supporting/advising team members when necessary and
mentoring apprentice staff
Profitable generic drug research/buying and reporting
to Practice Manager on a monthly basis. Liaise with drug company
representatives and negotiate dispensing discounts,
Delivery of DSQS with assistance of the Practice Manager. Including annual dispensing audit and staff appraisals. Annual review of Dispensary SOP's
Any other duties to assist in the smooth day to day running of the
Dispensary and Surgery as directed by the Practice Manager.

Dispensary Duties
1.
Ensure dispensing procedures are carried out adhering to
Practice Standard Operating Procedures including (but not limited to):
correct labelling, appropriate cautions and warnings, FP10 completed and
claims made correctly and overall smooth running of dispensary.
2.
Organisation of Holiday and Sickness cover and checking
and submission of FP10s for reimbursement together with correction and
resubmission of returned FP10s
3.
Monthly advising of correct endorsing to dispensers
4.
Supporting/advising team members when necessary and
mentoring apprentice staff
5.
Controlled drugs audit monthly
6.
GP drug bags audit bi-monthly
7.
Ensuring drug alerts are dealt with promptly
8.
Ensuring refrigerated items are stored correctly and
maintain temperature control record book
9.
Ensuring incoming stock is dealt with promptly and stock
is rotated to avoid out of date items, ensuring sensible levels of stock are
maintained at each dispensary and ensuring all antibiotic medications are
available for dispensing at any time.
10.
Maintain high standards of cleanliness on shelves and work
surfaces
11.
Ensure dispensary equipment is kept clean and in good
working order
12.
Profitable generic drug research/buying and reporting to
Practice Manager on a monthly basis. Liaise with drug company representatives
and negotiate dispensing discounts,

Maintaining first point of call for any dispensing issues
14.
Ensuring any errors are recorded in the Errors register on
a monthly basis
15.
Preparation of dispensary delivery service schedules and
ensuring all is ready for collection by delivery person
16.
Ensuring printing of FP10s and preparation of all
medications for those patients on the Repeat Prescribing Service
17.
