Job summary

As a Receptionist/Administrator you will receive, direct, and assist patients and visitors in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous and friendly manner. Providing administrative support, services and general assistance to doctors and other Practice staff efficiently and effectively.

Main duties of the job

Reception

  • Provide an effective, efficient, and friendly reception service to patients and visitors in accordance with Practice protocols.
  • Make appointments and deal with all general enquiries for patients where required.
  • Book, amend and cancel appointments on the day and for future dates where required.
  • Book and process requests from home visits as appropriate.
  • Take and process messages, requests, and tasks to and from patients in person.
  • Using your own judgement, ensure that patients requesting urgent appointments, advice or home visits are correctly processed and the doctor on duty informed, as necessary.
  • Ensure that new patients are registered onto the computer system promptly and accurately and advised of all services available to them including online booking, text message consent, sharing preferences etc.
  • Keep reception tidy, maintaining a clear desk policy and complying to patient confidentiality and data protection.
  • Advise patients of relevant charges for private (non GMS) services, accept payments and issue receipts for the same.
  • Give out test results on patients request

Administrative

  • Assist the clinical staff & management with any admin tasks deemed appropriate, including chronic disease recalls.
  • Maintain admin task box
  • QOF support

Other Tasks

  • Open the surgery at the start of the day, taking early phone calls from staff and covering reception for the first part of the morning.
  • Undertake any additional tasks appropriate to the post as requested by the Practice and/or other Managers.

TheSurgery moved to its newpurpose-built home in Jan 2020. We are a friendly, modern practice with a population of approx 7,500 patients.
