Job summary

We are a friendly, rural, multiple site GMS Practice with 4 Partners and 8 salaried doctors serving 14600 patients. Due to Practice growth and GP retirement, we are seeking applications from enthusiastic, motivated GPs for salaried GPs as a permanent post to help us maintain a high standard of quality care for our patients.

We are a flexible and supportive employer with an established but growing team who are committed in their support of our GPs in providing patient centred continuity of care for our Practice population. We recently achieved a GOOD rating in terms of being safe, effective and well led during our CQC inspection and ranked 5th in Cambridge and Peterborough in this years GP patient feedback Survey.

An established teaching and training Practice hosting GP Registrars and Cambridge Medical Students.

Emisweb clinical system. Part dispensing. Offering a traditional appointment system.

Paramedics and Clinical Pharmacists support GPs with patient contacts.

Our workflow team manage 90% of incoming documents.

Regular GP, team and multidisciplinary meetings with protected time.

An experienced nursing team trained in minor illness and chronic disease management.

One session per week pro-rata CPD with encouragement of special interests.

Main duties of the job

GPs will be involved in the delivery of all services incorporated within the GMS contract to meet the needs of our growing patient population.

About us

We are currently a 2 Surgery, rural GP Practice with plans for a third Surgery imminently. We have a growing team of GPs and support staff who work together to deliver a high standard of care for our patients. We have 4 Partners and 8 salaried GPs with a patient list of 14600 patients across the 2 existing Surgeries. We are flexible in the support of our team to utilise their strengths and specialist interests which results in a high level of team commitment and length of service. We are a training Practice with a positive, forward thinking culture of learning.

SALARIED GENERAL PRACTITIONER

REPORTS TO: THE PARTNERS (Clinically)

THE PRACTICE MANAGER (Administratively)

Job summary:

The post-holder will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.

Clinical responsibilities:

  • In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make themselves available to undertake a variety of duties, including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion
  • Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation
  • Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
  • Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
  • Developing care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols
  • Providing counselling and health education
  • Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate
  • Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
  • Collecting data for audit purposes
  • Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible)
  • Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate
  • Completion of Insurance Reports and Medicals for patients within their care.
  • Contributing to duty/cover arrangements during Practice closures and for GP colleagues when absent.
  • In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

Other responsibilities within the organisation:

  • Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety
  • A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice
  • Contributing to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation
  • Contributing to the development of computer-based patient records
  • Contributing to the summarising of patient records and read-coding patient data
  • Attending training and events organised by the practice or other agencies, where appropriate.
