Applications are invited for a part-time Practice Nurses at Gordon Street Surgery. We are a friendly practice with approximately 10,800 patients. The successful applicant will have good clinical, IT and interpersonal skills and be willing to upskill according to need. We
would encourage the successful candidate to lead on areas of patient care that are of interest
to them, appropriate to the role and fits in with the practices requirements and vision.
Previous GP Practice Nursing experience is essential, additional training can be offered where needed.
The role is for 24 hours over 3 or 4 days (5 days to be covered between the 2 nurses.)
Main duties of the job
- To be Practice Infection Lead and carry out audits including Infection Control
- Chronic Disease Management for Diabetes, COPD, Asthma, Essential Hypertension, Heart Disease. This will include patient education and monitoring.
- Asthma, Diabetic and other clinics in conjunction with practice staff and GPs
- To support the practice for all relevant aspects of CQC and work within QOF guidelines as appropriate
- Immunisations
Ensure safe storage, rotation and disposal of vaccines and drugs
Ordering PHE vaccinations
Assist in clinical stock management
Maintaining emergency drugs and equipment
Assist with management of clinical emergencies within the surgery
To work the practice extended hours as and when required by the practice
To chaperone patients where necessary
About us
We are a well-established practice in Burton-On-Trent, delivering a wide range of services to our 10,800 patients with the support of our 3 GP Partners, Salaried GP, Nurses and Health Care Assistants. We are also assisted by Community Nurses and a Community Midwife.
Gordon Street Surgery is experiencing exciting times as we have recently undertaken new Management structure. We have a Practice Manager and an Assistant Practice Manager. Reception is lead by our Reception Manager who supports a team of 9 receptionists. We also have 2 Administrators and a Medical Secretary.
We operate from purpose built premises with staff parking facilities.

The Practice Nurse will also be expected to take responsibility for delivering screening and public health programmes associated with primary care.
Duties
To carry out duties including:
Immunisations
Travel vaccinations
Ensure safe storage, rotation and disposal of vaccines and drugs
Ordering PHE vaccinations
Assist in clinical stock management
Maintaining emergency drugs and equipment
Wound dressings, suture removals and ulcer care
Refer patients to other clinicians/supportive agencies as appropriate
Phlebotomy
Cervical smears
Obtaining high vaginal swab taking
Contraceptive care
Assist with management of clinical emergencies within the surgery
Performing diagnostic procedures including BP, peak flow and urine testing
Asthma, Diabetic and other clinics in conjunction with practice staff and GPs
Chronic Disease Management for Diabetes, COPD, Asthma, Essential Hypertension, Heart Disease. This will include patient education and monitoring.
ECGs
24hour ambulatory BP monitoring
INR monitoring using INR STAR
Assistance with minor surgery procedures
To be Practice Infection Lead and carry out audits including Infection Control
Good communications with other team members when clinical findings on routine examination indicate possible action/follow up
To support the HCA, providing guidance when necessary and required
To support the practice for all relevant aspects of CQC and work within QOF guidelines as appropriate
Awareness of child and adult safeguarding procedures, statutory local procedures and points of referral
Attendance at practice meetings as required
To work the practice extended hours as and when required by the practice
To chaperone patients where necessary
Any other duties as requested by the practice
