Job summary

Lead Nurse Bexley Urgent Treatment Centres (UTCs in Bexley) Queen Marys Hospital Sidcup and Erith and District Hospital

As the Lead Nurse you will be responsible for delivering a prompt, high-quality services to the UTCs across Bexley. You will play a key role in the provision of autonomous clinical practice and leadership.

The UTCs are standalone and are not co-located with an Emergency Department. We see both minor illnesses and minor injuries with the Queen Marys site open 24 hours a day. From midnight this is manned by a GP only.

Main duties of the job

You will need to be flexible as a shift system operates in both areas. A non-medical prescribing qualification would be desirable but not essential. The ability to work under pressure and autonomously is essential for this post.

Lead Nurse Bexley Urgent Treatment Centres (UTC)

To provide clinical, professional, and managerial leadership across the Bexley UTCs.

To be the nursing/allied health professional lead, providing a strong clinical presence and developing nurses and allied health professional practice within the UTC, assuring the provision of a safe, effective, and evidence-based nursing service to patients.

To be a core member of the management team, supporting the Bexley UTCs and the Hurley Group in achieving its plans ensuring that Bexley UTCs can meet its agreed targets within the available resources

Actively support the team objectives by developing services and leading on projects to influence service redesign.

  • Recognised qualification to diploma level or above in nursing or management
  • Up to date certificates in cervical screening, immunisation administration, relevant to chronic disease management, wound care, and other areas relevant to post
  • A demonstrable commitment to professional development
  • The post holder must maintain valid registration with the NMC.
  • The post holder should have current membership of a professional nursing organisation e.g. RCN.
  • Experience of working in accordance with the UKCC Code of Professional Conduct and The Scope of Professional Practice
  • At least 5 years post registration experience (at least 2 years at F-grade/Band 6 or above) and a minimum of 3 years in practice nursing
  • Experience of managing other nurses
  • Experience of EMIS clinical system
  • Experience of dealing with the public/patients
  • Experience of working in a primary care environment
  • Experience of chronic disease management
  • Experience of infection prevention and control measures
