Job summary

We are seeking a motivated and skilled Treatment Room Nurse to join our friendly and supportive team of Nurses and HCAs. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality nursing care to our diverse patient population, working both independently and as part of the wider multidisciplinary team.

This role is ideal for an experienced Treatment Room Nurse with strong clinical skills, excellent communication, and a patient-centred approach to care.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide treatment room nursing services in line with practice protocols and evidence-based guidelines
  • Perform wound care, dressings, and management of leg ulcers
  • Administer vaccinations and immunisations (including childhood and adult programmes)
  • Undertake cervical screening
  • Carry out venepuncture
  • ECGs
  • Blood pressure monitoring
  • Urinalysis
  • Administer injections (e.g. B12, contraceptives, travel vaccines)
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical records using EMIS web
  • Ensure infection prevention and control standards are upheld at all times
  • Work collaboratively with all practice staff and wider MDT

Job responsibilities

Clinical duties

To undertake and record on the computer the following tasks:-

  • Childhood Immunisations
  • Ensuring that consulting rooms and treatment rooms are tidy and fully stocked (in the absence of the HCA)
  • Control of infection within the practice following the practice protocol
  • To undertake recording of ECGs.
  • To ensure that adequate treatment room supplies are maintained and that resuscitation equipment is safely maintained.
  • To undertake health promotion activities and counselling of patients as required, if appropriate training has been undertaken.
  • Phlebotomy
  • Collection of other pathological specimens
  • Ear care, including ear syringing
  • Dressings
  • Suture removal
  • Administration of anti-psychotic medication
  • Injections
  • Flu clinics
  • Travel immunisations and advice
  • Cervical screening
  • Long Term Condition Clinics (COPD, Asthma, Diabetes, Hyerpentsion)
  • Minor operations; to include explanation to patient of the procedure and the preparation of room and equipment.
  • Any other procedure for which the nurse is trained and competent and may be required for the operation of an efficient treatment room.
  • To work within practice policies and protocols
  • To recognise changes in the patients observations which must be reported and acted on.
  • To assist clinicians in emergency management of patients
  • To enable patients to access appropriate professionals within the team
  • To act as a chaperone in line with the practices policy
  • To appreciate the principles of Healthy Living
  • To provide health promotion literature for patients
  • To maintain clinical equipment efficiently, ensuring that all clinical equipment used is clean and decontaminated after use.
