Job summary

Our practice is based in a modern purpose built building with excellent transport links to Sunderland, Newcastle and Gateshead and local bus routes.

We are a friendly, innovative and patient focused GP practice in South Shields . Our experienced and enthusiastic team work hard to provide high quality care for our patients.

Main duties of the job

Main responsibilities of Role:

Ensure effective and efficient service is provided to patients and visitors

Undertake a variety of administrative duties to assist in the smooth running of the practice.

Telephone duties, making appointments, taking home visit requests. Register new patients, handling prescriptions, collect payments for non NHS payments.

Opening and processing incoming mail, to have a knowledge of all procedures and work in accordance with written protocols.

About us

We are a large practice with GP's, Nurse Practitioners, practice nurse, nurse associates, Health Care Assistants and Admin, Secretaries and Receptionists. We have team building events and on going training as a practice together to share ideas and ongoing improvements for our patients.

We have weekly meetings to ensure communication of any changes reaches all staff. The workplace has a very friendly atmosphere with all our staff.

Job Summary:

Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way.

Provide general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone.

Job Responsibilities:

Ensure an effective and efficient reception service is provided to patients and any other visitors to the practice

Deal with all general enquiries, explain procedures and make new and follow up appointments.

Receive and make telephone calls as required. Divert calls and take messages, ensuring accuracy of detail and prompt delivery.

Add house calls to daily house call screen, ensuring correct patient details and adding the information onto correct day.

Dealing with mail internal and external

Give out pathology results

Register new patients

Action change of address

Update the clinical system with information, smoking, ethnicity and contact details

Action repeat prescriptions and forward to medicine management to add or amend in patients' records

Action and manage emails coming into the practice

Scan, file and code documents into patients notes accurately

Support clinical staff with administrative tasks as required

Manage the waiting area, ensuring patients are informed of any delays

Organise Translators

Manage EConsults as per practice policy

Follow all practice policies and procedures including health and safety, data protection, and safeguarding
