Job summary

Leach Heath Medical Centre has an exciting opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant/Phlebotomist to join our team. We are a well-established, forward thinking, friendly, training practice with an expanding list size of 8,500 patients. We are part of Our Health Partnership https://ourhealthpartnership.com/ and use System One. We are also proud to have been rated Good overall by CQC and are a high achievers in QOF.

Main duties of the job

You will;

be autonomous in making decisions based on assessment, diagnosis and interpretation of test results

be able to work within own scope of practice and understand when to refer to GPs

be able to evaluate or refer where appropriate to other specialists if necessary

work collaboratively with the rest of the practice staff to ensure patients needs are met

About us

The team consists of 3 Partners and 3 Salaried GPs working alongside a team of Nurses, HCAs, Receptionists and Admin Staff. The practice is supported by PCN Pharmacists and Physician Associates. We are looking for someone hardworking to join our friendly team.

Job responsibilities

Job summary:

Working under the direct supervision of the practice nurse and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the healthcare assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

Duties and responsibilities:

NHS health checks

ECG recording

Phlebotomy

Chaperoning duties

Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses

Sterilising, cleansing and maintenance of surgical equipment

Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording

Surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation

Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms

Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions, including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations

Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being

Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual

Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted

Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being

  • GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths
  • Appropriate NVQ
  • Qualified in Phlebotomy

  • Experience of working in a GP Practice or similar environment

  • Experience of dealing with the public/patients
