Job summary
Leach Heath Medical Centre are looking for a Medical
Receptionist/Administrator to join our team for 20 hours per week. We are
looking for someone who is enthusiastic, well organised and possesses excellent
communication skills.
Main duties of the job
Key responsibilities to include booking
appointments, scanning and coding letters, repeat prescriptions and other admin
work as required.
Experience within the healthcare sector is desirable
but not essential as full training will be provided.

The team consists of 3 Partners and 4
Salaried GPs working alongside a team of Nurses, HCAs, Receptionists and Admin
Staff. The practice is supported by PCN Pharmacists and Physician Associates.

Reception Duties
- Ensure that the patients right to confidentiality is respected at all times.
- Receive / record all visitors to the practice, ensuring that security is maintained at all times, in accordance with practice protocols, alerting the Practice Manager to any suspicious activities.
- Receive and respond to enquiries from patients and visitors to the practice in a courteous and professional manner.
- Ensure that all patients presenting as an emergency are seen on the same day, in a logical and non-disruptive manner.
- Ensure efficient running of the appointment system and monitor flow of patients into consulting and treatment rooms
- Monitor the appointments system, reporting any problems or variations to the Reception Manager or Practice Manager.
- Record and action all requests for home visits and telephone consultations, liasing with the doctor on call where necessary.
- Ensure all requests for repeat prescriptions are appropriately actioned and inform the on call doctor of any discrepancies.
- Retrieve and re-file notes and letters as required, ensuring that strict chronological order is maintained.
- Ensure all correspondence, reports, results etc are filed in correct chronological order within new and existing patients notes.
- Explain practice services and how to access services to all new patients and other enquirers.
- Ensure procedures are correctly followed and completed for all registrations.
- Monitor regular non-attenders, as indicated in Practice protocols, informing the Practice Manager when services are being accessed in an in-appropriate manner
- Receive monies associated with private medical reports / forms.
- Ensure that reception / waiting room are made and kept safe for all visitors and colleagues.
