Job summary

We are a friendly, innovative, mutually supportive, and progressive practice who are looking to recruit a Physician Associate to join our existing team. We can be flexible in relation to hours for the right candidate and would be prepared to offer scope for career development within the role.

  • PMS list: approximately 10800 patients
  • 7 GP Partners, 1 Salaried GP, 2 Physician Associates and 1 Advanced Clinical Practitioner
  • We have 2 surgeries within the Barnsley Central area
  • We are committed to high standards of clinical care, providing additional services and success in QOF achievement
  • We provide nurse-led minor illness clinic and chronic disease clinics
  • We are a training practice

We are seeking a friendly and motivated team player, ideally for part time hours by would consider full time hours for the right candidate.

We will provide training for the right candidate and job share would be considered. Salary will be compatative and dependent on experience.

Main duties of the job

  • taking medical histories from patients
  • performing physical examinations
  • diagnosing illnesses
  • seeing patients with long-term chronic conditions
  • performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
  • analysing test results
  • developing management plans with appropriate supervision
  • provide health promotion and disease prevention advice for patients.

About us

We are a large established training practice with a full compliment of staff.

The surgeries are located centrally and easy to get to from the M1 and surrounding areas.

Our main site at Worsbrough is a purpose built 'LIFT' building and our branch surgery at Gold Street is a purpose built privately owned surgery.

Job responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY

To work within a multi disciplinary practice team ensuring the provision of high standards of quality to the practice population. Undertake training and development as required within the role.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. To be responsible for the provision of the following clinics, as needed (after undertaking any necessary training/updates)

Respiratory & Cardiovascular Clinic

Flu clinic

Diabetic Clinic

Baby clinic

Immunisation/Vaccination

  1. To ensure all staff members understand the format for accepting appointments.

  2. Management of emergencies e.g. anaphylactic shock, cardiac arrest and first aid.

  3. To liaise with colleagues to ensure there is appropriate cover for all services provided by the team.

    ADMINISTRATION

    5. To attend meetings as required, contribute to discussions and ensure that any follow up action is implemented.

    6. To attend clinical meetings , contributing to the agenda and discussions as appropriate

    7. To attend annual appraisal.

    8. Work in line with practice policies and procedures to maintain standards and working practices.

    9. To ensure the maintenance of appropriate medical records, schedules and item of service claims.

DISEASE MANAGEMENT

  1. The post holder will be expected to be responsible for the following:

    Maintenance of chronic disease management & ensuring QuOF achievements

HEALTH PROMOTIONAL ACTIVITIES

  1. To give appropriate advice to the practice population promoting healthy lifestyles.

  2. To ensure that Health Promotional Literature is available in the Practice.

    GENERAL DUTIES

  1. Liaise with Executive GP/Business Manager regarding the maintenance and supply of equipment and medical sundries.

  2. Vaccination and immunisation of patients as per practice protocol

  3. Safe disposal of contaminated waste/sharps

  4. Management of emergency anaphylactic shock, cardiac arrest, first aid

  5. Maintenance of appropriate medical records and schedules

  6. Perform ECG

  7. New patient medical checks

  8. Family Planning advice

    Other duties as necessary, but working in accordance with the UKCC Code of Conduct, Standards for Records and Record Keeping, Exercising Accountability, Standards for the Administration of Medicines and Guidelines for Professional Practice.

    PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITY

    The post holder will have appropriate supervision and be expected to use their own initiative in the role of the Physician Associate.

    The post holder will be required to undertake training, statements of competence or gain the equivalent level of skill acquired through experience in order to maintain professional development.

    BROADER RESPONSIBILITIES

    When necessary to act as a representative of the practice and to carry out the above duties in a responsible and respectable fashion at all times, particularly as the way the practice is managed may be occasionally taken to reflect the standard of care provided.

    Driving licence and car owner

    Any other duties appropriate to the grading of the post.
