Phlebotomist (GP Practice)

Job summary

Salford Medical Centre is a GP practice with nearly 15,000 patients. We also have a branch practice: The Quays Practice which currently operates out of Ordsall Health Centre (M5 3PH)

We are looking to welcome a Phlebotomist to our team to work across both sites due to the increasing demand for blood tests.

Ideally we are looking for someone to work between 20 and 25 hours per week on the following days & times; we have some flexibility regarding start & finish times however due to limited room capacity we are only able to offer the below days.

  • Tuesday (Salford Medical Centre)
  • Thursday (Salford Medical Centre)
  • Friday (The Quays Practice)

Previous or current experience working within primary care in a GP practice will be an advantage but is not necessary.

What the practice requires:

  • You must be able to work between the hours of 8am - 6:30pm
  • You must be able to work at BOTH sites.
  • We may require flexibility to cover sickness / annual leave (sometimes at short notice)

Main duties of the job

Obtaining consent & performing venepuncture.

To take Blood pressures, height & weight readings (as required)

To check the diary function to ensure all due blood tests are completed.

Promote a good relationship with our patients.

Working with our nursing team and seeking guidance where necesary.

About us

Salford Medical Centre is one of 10 practices that make up the Salford South East Primary Care Network.We are a long standing high achieving practice and at our last assessment were rated as Good by the CQC.

We work using the EMIS clinical system as well as using Footfall, Docman10, Vision 360, Ardens, Accurx, iPlato, & Outlook.

Our practice has seen a lot of change in the last 4 years due to the opening of our branch site. We have grown from being under 4000 patients to almost 15,000 patients. The patient demographic at each of our sites is very different which provides variety in speaking to people from all walks of life as well as a different working environment and with different members of the team.

Due to our practice expending our clinical & administration teams have grown and diversified. Our team is a mix of ages and backgrounds giving a wealth of knowledge & support for any new starters.

Our clinical team consists of: 1 GP Partner, 11 Salaried GP's, 1 ANP, 2 Practice nurses, 2 HCA's, as well as access to our PCN Pharmacists & MSK Practitioners

Our clinical, nursing & administrative teams all work harmoniously together as they are all patient focused and driven towards providing the best care for our patients. We also continuously review our systems & processes in order to better meet our patients needs.

  1. Obtaining consent for the collection of blood samples
  2. Performing venepuncture in accordance with practice protocols
  3. Maintain accurate records in EMIS
  4. Urine dipstick testing (training done in house)
  5. Updating patients Blood Pressure, Height & Weight as required
  6. Correct labelling, packaging & storing of samples
  7. Ensuring samples are sent to the lab in a timely manor
  8. Liasing with the lab for any addition tests required
  9. Ensuring any patient follow up is arranged as per practice protocols.
