Job summary

Join our welcoming team at The Enderley Road Medical Centre in Harrow as a Practice Nurse. This exciting role offers the perfect blend of clinical expertise and managerial responsibilities within a team of dedicated Nurses and HCAs. The position is 21 hours per week working Mondays and Fridays.

Main duties of the job

As one of our practice nurses you will play a pivotal role in delivering excellent clinical care to our patients including health promotion, chronic disease management (with a focus on diabetes), infection control and prevention and immunisations. You will work with the practice management team to evaluate and implement clinical policies and procedures.. Concurrently, your clinical skills will be put to use in delivering essential primary care services, particularly through chronic disease clinics.

About us

The practice has a registered population of 12,700 patients with 5 partners, 3 salaried GPs as well as an extensive clinical team comprising of practice nurses, health care assistants, phlebotomist, PCN pharmacist, PCN physician associate, PCN first contact physiotherapist and supported by a large team of receptionists and administrators. The practice is also an established training practice with GP registrars, foundation doctors and a trainee nurse. The clinical system used by the practice is EMIS web and the practice has a CQC rating of good. The practice is part of the Healthsense primary care network (PCN).

  • You will be entitled to 5 weeks paid holiday per calendar year excluding bank holidays.
  • Weekly MDT meetings are held at the Practice.

Job responsibilities

  • Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by senior nursing staff and GPs
  • Cytology
  • Wound care / ulcer care/doppler
  • Removal of Sutures
  • New Patient Medicals/Urinalysis
  • Travel clinic
  • ECGs
  • Asthma/peak flow readings/spirometry
  • Venepuncture
  • Hypertension management
  • Routine immunisations/childhood immunisations
  • Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician
  • Assisting GPs with minor surgery and coil fittings
  • Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs
  • Diabetes reviews
  • Contraception pill checks
  • Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to senior nurses or GPs as appropriate.
  • Monitoring therapeutic anti-coagulation medication under the local guidelines.

Other tasks will include:

  • Maintaining and cleaning equipment used by the nurses and GPs
  • Maintaining the nurses' rooms, stocking and rotating items as required
  • Ordering of stock from Northwick Park Hospital
  • Ordering of vaccinations to maintain stock levels
  • Participation in administrative systems in the practice
  • Maintain accurate patient records
  • Advising senior nurses of potential difficulties or errors
  • Attend and participate in any practice meetings when required.
  • Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post
