Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Health Care Assistant to join our practice team.

We are two busy high achieving town centre practices in Cirencester looking for a health care assistant due to staff progression.

Main duties of the job

Working under the direct supervision of the practice nurse team and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the healthcare assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

You will have shared duties and responsibilities as part of the clinical team but must also be able to work on your own.

About us

We currently have a team of 6 practice nurses and 2 health care assistants working together across two practice sites in Cirencester.

The nursing team are also supported by 6 GP partners and 6 salaried GP's, there is also experienced management, reception and administration teams to further support your role.

Cirencester Health Group is a SystmOne practice with 13,000 patients.

We are looking to build on our established clinical team to ensure we are sustainable for the future.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The following are the core responsibilities of the healthcare assistant. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

a. Undertake new patient health checks

b. Phlebotomy when trained

c. When trained undertake and manage INR for patients, and calibration of the INR Star equipment

d. Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes

e. Assist and support in minor operations clinics

f. Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording findings accurately

g. Facilitate routine, lying and standing and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly

h. Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required

i. Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics

j. Carry out BMI checks as directed

k. Act as a chaperone as required

l. When trained, to administer vaccinations

m. When trained, carry out ear irrigation under the supervision of the practice nurse

n. Carry out ECGs as requested

o. Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation

p. Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session

q. Ensure fridges temperatures and TAGS are recorded and they are cleaned routinely in accordance with practice policy

r. Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy

s. Regularly check emergency bag, oxygen cylinders and anaphylaxis box equipment

t. Check and order stock as required ensuring levels as per practice policy

Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate
