Job summary
Kingswell Surgery is seeking an experienced and dynamic Primary Care Pharmacist to join our busy yet friendly team, serving a patient population of approximately 6,000. This is a new and developing part-time position. The number of hours is negotiable, with a view to increasing over time, as both the practice and the role grow.
We are looking for a proactive and motivated pharmacist to take a leading role in managing our dispensary and to work collaboratively with our clinical team. The successful candidate will help us deliver an effective, efficient, and high-quality medicines management service for both our patients and our colleagues.

Main duties of the job
As a Prescribing Pharmacist, you will play a central role in safe, effective, evidence-based medication management for our patients. You will support high-quality prescribing across the practice through prescription signing, medication reviews, medicines reconciliation, and safety searches to optimise prescribing and improve patient care.
Key Responsibilities
Medication Management & Prescribing
Provide safe, effective prescribing aligned with clinical guidelines and the local formulary.
Undertake structured medication reviews, medicines reconciliation, and monitoring to support long-term condition management and medicines optimisation.
Complete prescription signing accurately and efficiently.
Carry out regular safety searches and audits to maintain high standards.
Dispensary Leadership
Oversee daily dispensary operations to ensure safe, effective service delivery.
Line-manage the dispensary team, offering support, supervision, and leadership.
Ensure full compliance with DSQS.
Develop and maintain SOPs for dispensary processes and clinical activities.
Multidisciplinary Working
Work closely with GPs, nurses, pharmacists, and wider teams to improve medication safety and outcomes.
Contribute to prescribing initiatives, quality improvement work, and practice development.
Support the implementation of evidence-based guidelines and clinical governance processes.
About us
Kingswell Surgery is a busy and friendly dispensing practice in rural Penistone, caring for approximately 6000 patients. We are part of the Barnsley PCN and fall under South Yorkshire ICB.
Our practice team currently includes 3 GP Partners, 2 salaried GPs, 2 Practice Nurses, 2 Healthcare Assistants, 2 Dispensers and an Administration team.

- Independent Prescriber qualification.
- Experience in primary care, community pharmacy, or hospital settings.

- Ability to work independently while collaborating within a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent communication and patient consultation skills.
- Supervision/management experience.
Desirable
