Job summary

Interviews to be held on Tuesday 31st October 2023 after 2pm:

To work as part of the primary healthcare team providing Personal Medical Services to the patients of the Practice following NMC guidance, UKCC Code of Conduct and practice protocols/policies.

We welcome applications from experienced Practice Nurses to join our friendly, well-established team at Broomfield Park Medical Centre. You will be part of a supportive, motivated, and committed practice, providing high quality care to patients from a wide range of socio-economic groups in central Coventry. We also have a branch practice looking after the students and staff at Warwick University.

We require a fully trained Practice Nurse for 3-4 full days per week on a Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday to work alongside our team of 4 GP partners, 6 salaried GPs, 2 ANPs, a part time Practice Nurse and a HCA. Clinical staff are supported by highly trained, experienced reception and admin teams who ensure that Docman, referrals, recalls, meds management has as little clinician input as possible enabling our clinical staff to deliver the care needed to our patients.

Main duties of the job

Cervical cytology LBC screening

Wound care / ulcer care

Removal of Sutures/clips

New Patient Medicals/Urinalysis

Travel Health, Assessment and Immunisations

ECGs

Chronic Disease Monitoring, including home visits:

Asthma including Peak Flow Readings

COPD including spirometry screening and interpretation

CHD

Diabetes

Epilepsy

Health promotion

Hypertension Management and 24 hour BP monitoring

Ear irrigation

Routine immunisations/Childhood immunisations

Audiometry (private medicals only)

Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician

Assisting GPs and nurse practitioner with minor surgery, contraception procedures and assisting with coil fittings

Contraceptive pill checks and undertaking contraceptive injections under instruction of a GP

Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs, bloods

Assist with the maintenance and running of chronic disease registers as agreed within the practice

Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to senior nurses or GPs as appropriate

Other tasks will include;

Supporting other team members i.e. HCA and PN

Assisting with QOF/GMS targets and requirements as and when necessary

Assisting with the maintaining and cleaning equipment used by the nurses and GPs

Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms

In participation with the practice manager, ensure the maintenance of equipment and stock levels relating to patient care

About us

Our purpose-built surgery was further expanded in 2019, allowing us to strengthen our links within our Primary Care Network and accommodate additional clinical staff to support our GPs including a GP Assistant, Physician Associate, Clinical Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technician, Occupational Therapist, Care Coordinator, Physiotherapist, Dietitians, Mental Health practitioner and Social Prescribers.

We also provide minor surgery and contraception services.

We are rated as good in all areas by CQC, a high achieving QOF practice, utilising EMIS web offering a mixture of Tel Cons and Face-to-Face appointments allocated at patients request resulting in high customer satisfaction.

On occasion there may be a requirement to undertake home visits

Health & Safety:

Using personal security systems within the workplace according to practice guidelines

Awareness of national standards of infection control and cleanliness and regulatory / contractual / professional requirements, and good practice guidelines

Responsible, alongside the nursing team, for the correct and safe management of the specimens process including collection, labelling, handling, use of correct and clean containers, storage and transport arrangements

Management and maintenance of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the practice including provision, ordering, availability and on-going correct usage by staff

Responsible for own hand hygiene and promotion across the practice

Ownership of infection control and clinically based patient care protocols, and implementation of those protocols across the practice

Active observation of current working practices across the practice in relation to infection control, cleanliness and related activities, ensuring that procedures are followed and weaknesses / training needs are identified, escalating issues as appropriate

Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks across clinical and patient process
