Job summary
The following are the core responsibilities of
the phlebotomist. There may be on occasion, a requirement to
carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and
staffing levels:
- Carry out blood pressure and pulse
rate, recording findings accurately.
- Facilitate routine BP monitoring, at
home, advising patients accordingly
- Carry out BMI checks as directed
- Act as a chaperone as required
- Undertake venepuncture
- Ensure specimens are recorded and
ready for onward transportation
- Help ensure all clinical rooms are
adequately stocked and prepared for each session
- Deliver opportunistic health promotion
where appropriate
Main duties of the job

- An appropriate entry is made in the patient medical records
- Appropriate forms are completed as necessary
General Treatment Room Duties:
- Ensure that Infection Control procedures are adhered to.
- Ensure the Treatment rooms are kept clean and tidy.
- Ensure all medical equipment is properly cared for and any faults reported as soon as possible.
Information Technology:
- Input of clinical data obtained during a consultation, BP etc.
- Retrieval of relevant medical information from the patient database for the purpose of medical audit or practice research.
Education and Training:
- Prepare for and take part in an annual appraisal.
- Attend practice meetings, and appropriate training courses as agreed by the GPs.

- Abide by the Health and Safety at Work Act.
- Attend mandatory training regularly
- Co-operate and liaise with departmental colleagues.
- Observe the practices Equal Opportunities Policy in their behaviour to the public and other workers.
- Participate in an annual individual performance review
About us
We are looking for an experienced, caring and dedicated Phlebotomist to join our small friendly practice team based at Elm Lane & Chapeltown Surgery. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in delivering high quality patient care, working alongside a group of dedicated skilled professionals in a supportive environment. The post is for 15hrs per week.
