This is an exciting opportunity for the right person to join an existing team of Physician Associates within the PCN and to develop their clinical management in a fast moving Primary Care environment, in the heart of the community. The practice teams have a wealth of experience of working in primary care which will undoubtedly provide the opportunity for the successful applicant to develop their knowledge and skills and shape the role within dynamic clinical teams.
The position for a Physician Associate for OneNorwich, working on a permanent, full time basis, has been created to underpin new models of care and support a sustainable future for Primary Care.

Main duties of the job
The PA will provide care for patients presenting with an undifferentiated diagnosis, from initial history taking, clinical assessment & examination including investigations (if appropriate), to the diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of care. The PA will demonstrate critical thinking in the clinical decision-making process, including assessment and diagnostic skills, leading to the delivery of safe care for all patients. They will work collaboratively with a practice team to meet the needs of the patients, supporting the delivery of policy and procedures. The role will provide a holistic clinical service, with support from GPs as required, implementing agreed plans and following approved protocols. The PA will be expected to carry out some home visits, consult with patients who present on the day or via pre-booked appointments and conduct On Line Consultations, triage and delivery of care. The PA will review blood results, referrals/correspondence and Med 3 Sick Certificates, and act appropriately on these.
The level and type of supervision will be dependent on the post holders skills and knowledge and determined by the organisations clinical governance arrangements. The practice is expected to hold clinical meetings and educational events which the PA would be expected to attend and contribute to

CLINICAL
- Participate in all treatment and preventative healthcare services in the practice as delegated and agreed by the supervising GP(s).
- Provide direct clinical care to patients using up-to-date clinical guidelines.
- Consult and refer patients to physicians, medical specialists and other health professionals as deemed appropriate.
- Interview patients, take medical histories, perform physical examinations, analyse, diagnose and explain medical problems during surgery consultations and home visits.
- Recommend and explain appropriate diagnostic tests and treatment.
- Request and interpret results of laboratory investigations when necessary.
- Perform specialised diagnostic physical examinations and treatment procedures.
- Educate patients in preventative health care to enable them to make informed decisions about their health.
- Conduct telephone consultations which may include discussing results and implications of laboratory investigations
- Fully document all aspects of patient care on patients SystmOne/EMIS record and complete any relevant paperwork.
- Contribute to the clinical development of the Practice by developing a specialist clinical interest and to help establish appropriate systems to manage common chronic medical conditions, ensuring compliance with NHS guidelines.
