Medical Secretary

Job summary

We are seeking a Medical Secretary to join our busy GP Surgery, supporting our clinical teams. We care for approximately 6,000 patients locally and are looking for a reliable, organised, and professional individual to help keep our practice running smoothly.

Hours: 24 hours per week (flexible working patterns considered)

Interviews: Week commencing 12th January 2026

Main duties of the job

Typing and audio-typing referral letters to hospitals and other healthcare providers using word processing software and the surgerys clinical systems.

Processing referrals using the Electronic Referral System (ERS) and Cinapsis system and keeping up to date with system changes.

Dealing with patient queries concerning referrals to secondary care / other healthcare providers.

Typing administrative letters and other documents when required using a range of software including word processing, publishing, database, and spreadsheet applications.

Updating patient records, including coding of entries and scanning of documents.

Maintaining strict confidentiality.

Providing holiday cover for the other medical secretary employed by the practice; and

Other secretarial and administrative ad hoc tasks required to support the effective and efficient day-to-day running of the surgery
