Pendeen Surgery are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our Clinical Team as a Salaried GP who can help us to continue providing excellent care to our patients.
The successful candidate will have a combination of routine appointment sessions and one Duty Doctor day each week. In 2019 we set our routine face to face appointments to 15 minutes in duration. Our standard routine session is a combination of 8 x 15 minute face-to-face appointments and 6 x 10 minute telephone consultations.
Our Urgent Care Team (consisting of 2 ANPs and a Clinical Pharmacist) work alongside the Duty GP to run our acute service. This will involve a combination of triage, face to face and home visits where applicable. We have be operating this system of Urgent Care since the beginning of 2017, which was seen as new way of working at the time and is now standard practice at most GP Surgeries.
Each week we rota 2.5 hours of CPD into one of the afternoon sessions so that afternoon will have a reduced number of appointments.
We have senior administrators who triage all correspondence so that each GP only sees what they really need to and medication actions are dealt with by our Clinical Pharmacist.

Main duties of the job
Clinical Responsibilities:
- In accordance with the Practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/her-self
available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone
consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat
prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion
- Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether
self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation
- Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed
problems
- Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
- In consultation with patients and in line with current Practice disease management
protocols, developing care plans for health
- Providing counselling and health education
- Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care
providers as appropriate
- Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
Collecting data for audit purposes
- Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding handwritten prescriptions whenever possible)
- Prescribing in accordance with the Practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever
this is clinically appropriate
- In general the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and
responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care
About us
Pendeen Surgery is a busy market town GP Practice with just
under 9000 patients. At Pendeen Surgery we have an excellent group of clinical
and admin individuals who enjoy working alongside each other. Primary Care has
seen many challenges in recent years and our team is always supportive and
positive towards one another.
We are training Practice with three GP trainers (Dr Das, Dr Boughen and Dr Thurgood). We use EMIS Web and Docman clinical systems, along with Accurx. We have consistently been rated as Good by CQC and are very high QOF achievers.
We are part of the South and West Primary Care Network (Herefordshire). Our Extended Access cover is provided by Taurus Healthcare with appointments in the evenings and at the weekends. We also have Herefordshire Remote Health (HRH) virtual appointments during the day which is also run by Taurus Healthcare.
The surgery is situated just 5
minutes out of town adjacent to Dean Hill Park and a stone's throw from the
Community Hospital.
