Job summary
Beacon Primary Care is an innovative, forward-thinking GP practice serving approximately 17,000 patients across four sites in West Lancashire. We are seeking an enthuastic, motivated part-time Prescription Clerk to join our busy and supportive administrative team, Mondays and Tuesdays 08.30 - 17.00.

This is a key role within the practice andrequires a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, as patient safety is central to prescription processing. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the safe, accurate, and timely processing of prescription requests, while supporting patients and clinicians with medication queries.
The successful candidate will be organised, detail-oriented, and able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Excellent communication skills are essential, as the role involves liaising with patients, clinicians, pharmacies, and external healthcare providers.

Experience working in a GP practice or primary care setting and familiarity with EMIS Web would be desirable.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate must be able to manage a high volume of work while maintaining strict patient confidentiality and information governance standards.
Experience managing prescription queries or working with community pharmacies would be advantageous.
Duties may include, but are not limited to:

Processing routine prescription requests via EMIS, email, and AccuRx within two working days

Managing prescription queries and liaising with the Meds Management Lead, Practice Manager, and clinical team as required

Communicating with pharmacies, patients, nursing homes, and hospitals regarding medication queries

Ensuring patients are informed promptly of any medication changes

Supporting medicines optimisation, including synchronising repeat medications

Identifying overdue medication reviews and arranging appointments with the clinical pharmacist

Managing medication supply issues by liaising with pharmacies or the medicines optimisation team

Monitoring medication usage to identify potential over- or under-ordering

Updating patient records in line with hospital correspondence

Undertaking other administrative duties as required to support the smooth running of the practice
highlighting any medication queries, early requests, or safety concerns to the clinical team or prescribing lead
