Mid Sussex Health Care has an exciting vacancy for an Experienced Health Care Assistant at our large, 22,000 patient practice, GMS Teachingpractice, whichoperates across 3 sites. We have a diverse range of nursing skills within The Practice Nursing Team providing a full complement of nursing services. You would be working alongside a friendly, experienced team. We are looking for a motivated and skilled HCA who loves the challenge of working in General practice.

Main duties of the job

Simple and complex wound care

Suture removal

Health Checks

ECG recording

Phlebotomy

Chaperoning duties

Blood Pressure Check

Processing and management of lab samples requested by GP's/Nurses

Vaccine/Cold Chain storage, monitoring and recording

Surgical equipment re-stocking and stock rotation

Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms

Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions, including assisting GPs during the performance of Minor Surgery Clinics and Gynae Clinics.

Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being

Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how if can be promoted.

INRs

Learning Disability Checks

The undertaking of administrative tasks where relevant to assist with Practice audits and patient monitoring.

The following are desirable but not essential and training can be given if deemed necessary.

About us

At Mid Sussex Health Care, we are looking for an enthusiastic, forward thinking and motivated Health Care Assistant to join our team due to the upcoming retirement of one of our current HCAs. The practice is a friendly urban and rural GMS practice located in the South East.

Our list size is 22,000 patients and we have 3 different sites, all within 3 miles of each other. We have 11 GP partners, 1 non-clinical partner, 2 salaried GPs, ANP and a nursing team of Phlebotomists, HCAs and Practice Nurses. We are high QOF achievers and are actively engaged with our local ICB.

In addition, we have a wide range of specialist roles such as Physios, Clinical Pharmacists, Social Prescribers, Care Co-ordinators and Mental Health Support Worker, providing a diverse service to our patients.

Our ideal candidate will be flexible, have good communications skills and be a team player. We are keen to discuss any individual areas of interest or expertise and we are willing to wait for the ideal candidate. We are also happy to support further learning and development.

Working under the direct supervision of the Lead Nurse and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the Health Care Assistant (HCA) will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

Duties and responsibilities:

Responsible for the correct and safe management of the specimens process including collection, labelling, handling, use of correct and clean containers, storage and transport arrangements

Management and maintenance of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the Practice including provision, ordering, availability and ongoing correct usage by staff

Responsible for hand hygiene across the practice

Ownership of infection control and clinically based patient care protocols, and implementation of those protocols across the practice

Active observation of current working practices across the practice in relation to infection control, cleanliness and related activities, ensuring that procedures are followed and weaknesses / training needs are identified, escalating issues as appropriate

Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks across clinical and patient process

Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills, and initiate and manage the training of others across the full range of infection control and patient processes

Monitoring practice facilities and equipment in relation to infection control, ensuring that provision of hand cleansing facilities, wipes etc are sufficient to ensure a good clinical working environment. Lack of facilities to be escalated as appropriate.
