Job summary
We have a vacancy for a Senior/Experienced Practice Nurse,
working 30-37 hours per week, to join our friendly and supportive team at
Newnham Walk Surgery in Cambridge. We
benefit from a nursing team with a wealth of experience and knowledge and are
looking for a senior Nurse to lead us.
The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic, flexible and
motivated team player who will contribute to our dedicated team and have excellent
clinical and communication skills. A prescribing qualification and other
chronic disease management experience, family planning, travel medicine, baby
immunisations, respiratory, cytology and wound/treatment rooms skills are also
desirable.
You will need to be a registered nurse with appropriate
qualifications and ideally with GP practice experience but this is not
essential.
Main duties of the job
The post holder
will ideally be an experienced Practice Nurse with minor illness and chronic
disease management experience. Depending on previous experience and training,
the nurse will provide care within their previous training and skills as per
the job description below. Further training will be provided as necessary.
As nurse lead,
the post holder will maintain an ongoing communication with the nursing team of
Practice Nurses and HCAs to ensure a high standard of care.
The post holder
will also be required to work alongside the Office Manager and Practice Manager
and Partners to ensure Infection Control and Health and Safety guidance is
followed.

- Assess diagnose and treat a straightforward patient presentation within own level of competence and training and refer to a GP if complex presentation
- Refer to community and secondary care as per practice guidelines
- Order investigations and interpret within levels of competence and refer to a GP if complex

General Practice Nursing
Perform cervical smears, asthma reviews, contraception, diabetes reviews, hypertension reviews and general treatment room duties if have previous training and competence.
Senior/Lead Nurse Role
Maintain an ongoing communication with the nursing team to ensure a high standard of care.
- Liase with Practice Manager and Office Manager on staff, environment and repairs required.
- Ensure clinical rooms are maintained within infection control guidelines
- Ensure all stock is correctly ordered alongside the HCA Professional.
Professional
- Practice within policies and guidelines of the NMC (2015) and Newnham Walk Surgery.
- Maintain confidentiality of all patient identifiable information and contacts.
- Maintain and continually develop clinical knowledge, skills and competence relevant and appropriate to the role in order to promote safe and effective practice.

- Maintain skills and competencies in use of the clinical system.
- Inform the practice manager or a GP partner of any professional concerns and report significant events according to Newnham Walk Surgery policy.
