Job summary
We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Part-time Health
Care Assistant (36 hours per week, Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays & Fridays) to work within our General Practice team and support with a
range of clinical services.
Main duties of the job
The
role of HCA is essential to primary care, working independently and alongside clinicians.
We are looking for a candidate with
experience of working in primary care, preferably within general practice to join a friendly and supportive team on a part-time basis at
Stapenhill Medical Centre. This is a well-established GP surgery serving a
diverse population in East Staffordshire.

We are a highly productive Practice always looking to
provide excellent care and new services to our patients.
We currently have three full-time Partners, assisted by
three salaried GP's, a Clinical Pharmacist, an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, two
Practice Nurses, one Healthcare Assistant, two General Practice Assistants and
one Care-Coordinator.
With a patient list currently in excess of 9,500 and
growing, and with the development of new services, we are seeking to recruit to
address our future needs.
We are a friendly well-established Practice with high QOF
scores and a Good CQC rating.

We are looking for a candidate preferably with training/experience in:
- Phlebotomy
- New patient health checks
- NHS Health Checks
- Annual health checks (e.g., for long-term condition review, Mental Health physical checks)
- Basic observations (height, weight, blood pressure, temperature etc.)
- Near patient testing (e.g. blood glucose/ketones)
- ECGs
- Injections within scope of practice (e.g., B12, Flu vaccines, Shingles)
- Restocking, ordering and maintaining clinical equipment
- Assisting with minor surgical procedures
- Removal of wound closure materials, including sutures, clips and staples
- To act as a chaperone for other clinicians
- Urinalysis, preparation and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses
- Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording
- Management of clinical waste duties.
- Surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation
- Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms
- Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions, including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations
- Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being
- Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual.

- Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being

- GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths
- Healthcare qualification (level 3) or working towards gaining equivalent level
- Phlebotomy certification
- Venepuncture
- New patient medicals, including height, weight, BP, pulse
- Chaperone procedure
- Ability to record accurate clinical notes
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
- Strong IT skills
- Experience of working with the general public
- Experience of working in a healthcare setting
- Clear, polite telephone manner
- Effective time management (planning and organising)
- Ability to work as a team member and autonomously
- Good interpersonal skills
- Ability to follow clinical policy and procedure
